could the 360 elite...

im beggining not to like the way microsoft work,, first they drop the price of the first x box when it had hardly been out,, much to the outrage of the launch buyers etc,, now they produce this Elite version, at least Sony bought theres out in one package.

i love the xbox as it's cheap. initially i'm thinking of getting a second hand 360 but due to reliability story i think i have to keep waiting or just buy a new one. seems like ps3 is build to be better high quality but i suppose it's still too early to tell until 6 months later. somehow i began to see that ps3 will overtake 360 too.

the elite 360 is a shame way of trying to rip ppl's money off.

You dont need to pay £40 a year for live, i got my first two years for £37 with an online deal and an ebay code.

compare to ps3 which you don't even have to worry about any fees makes it look expensive. actually MS should change their live to FOC now as they have competition from sony. beside, if i remember correctly, MS is making profit for every 360 they sold, so why not let the consumers to use Live for free?

i'm pretty sure they were compensated, i think they were given a game and a free controller iirc, which they didn't have to do, paying a small premium at launch is perfectly fine with most hardcore gamers anyway and you cant blame ms for wanting to compete.

'look' yes, maybe to joe public but most gamers who have used both will know full well that the ms system is much better supported and the headstart that ms has justifies the price, i'd be suprised if they didn't lower it though as they coudl afford to no doubt.

You want the cheapest HDTV gaming system = 360 CorePack

You want additional harddrive for download content = Premium Pack

You want HDMI output and a much larger harddrive = Elite Pack

All play the same games with no differences and thats the way its always going to be. Buy the pack that suits your needs, its that simple and its called choice.

I like that...but it's perhaps a bit of a shame MS didn't do all three packs from the start.

Still think they might have shot themselves in the foot, but I hope not. Would be nice to see fairly even sales of all the new consoles in the long run.

yeah 2 free games and a controller, which as you say was a nice gesture and one they did not have to make.

oh that makes it ok,, does it??

Makes it ok for what? They realised they had overpriced it and acted accordingly, and made a goodwill gesture to those that had already paid. Would you rather they kept the high price, sold nothing and left the gaming market for Sony to do as they please with?

I'm not an Xbox360 owner just yet (will be very soon though), so I think I can sit on the fence and not be biased towards either console. But, I personally think Microsoft are releasing a product which isn't really worthy of the price increase over the Premium pack. Although HDMI is good to have, the price would have been justifiable if they had included a built in HD-DVD drive - after all, the PS3 is the main unit that I see pushing the Blu-Ray standard. Microsoft ideally need to do the same if people are going to adopt HD-DVD in the future.

The bigger hard drive is useful, but not as useful as if they had included some form of hard disc in all Xbox360's. It'd give developers more control over games, being able to copy some of the game content onto the hard drive temporarily while the game is running could potentially cut loading times and would no doubt allow them to easily provide addons for the game over the Marketplace, without alienating the customer base who don't have the hard drives.

Including Wi-Fi into the Elite probably would have been a good step if they really wanted a direct PS3 competitor. Rather than forcing the customer to purchase another wifi module which further adds to the cost of an already overpriced console.

The biggest problem Microsoft faces at this moment in time I believe, is the quite significant number of Xbox360's that die prematurely. Whether it be a design fault, or a component error, the problems should have been revised and sorted out promptly. As it stands, every forum has a lot of people on saying their Xbox has died within the 12 months they've had it. Stop me if I'm wrong here, but a games console should have a much higher life expectancy, heck, even my old Xbox is still running after a couple of years and I'm using it as a media center at uni.

Time will tell whether the PS3 has design issues like the Xbox360 has. But from what they're trying to charge for a basically slightly pimped Xbox360, it's nowhere near a direct competitor to the PS3 in terms of connectivity and functionality.

Oh, and they should have kept it white. It's a design feature of the Xbox360, it looks good under even the best looking plasma/LCD TV.

In my eyes the "Elite" has not been thought out properly, you only have to look at the slating it is getting all over the net (review sites and forums) to see people's opinion.
What MS have done is release a console with an un-necessary connection and a larger than PS3 hard-disk. They've also increased the cost of the console... Em... What?
Why are you doing this MS? What!? You're trying to fleece a few more idiots for money before the consoles refresh? Ah.

Honestly, **** MS, I am a 360 owner and I love the console. I am also waiting for the refresh models to come out. I will not be persuaded to buy an over-priced un-necessary piece of junk that will probably fail about a year and 1 day's usage after I buy it.

They've gone completely the wrong way about this in my eyes. Bundled wireless would smove EVERYTHING over, but that might cost MS a few a pence so that's out the window.
People are currently caught up in the HD hype, but I think that will die down soon enough. What is needed is a console that works and does everything needed FOR GAMING. I see wireless as a key point in this, I am willing to move my 360 and TV to where my router is to get round wireless, a lot of people aren't though. This is just MS giving away a lot to Sony, they are literally wasting there lead in online gaming until it is made standard, (Imo of course...)
I ****ing hate the idea of this Elite system because it is no good for US, as gamers, at all. Until the PS3 shafts MS into being scared then we are continually going to get raped for extras that should come as standard with a "premium" never mind "elite" console.

I have a feeling that they will do rather well, public perception seems to be that this is a well built and powerful piece of kit. To Sony, image is everything.

sod public perception. it IS a well built and powerful piece of kit. in all honestly, it does outdo the 360 is almost every area. i bought mine first and foremost for blueray playback, but it keeps astounding me. sd dvd playback is top notch, blueray is stunning, its stupidly quiet compared to the 360, its far better built. it costs more but there's no subscription to their online service. sony actually ENCOURAGE you to install linux on it, it has card readers built in, keyboard and mouse support is native, upgrading the hdd is as easy as removing the cover and a screw....

the only thing i wasnt impressed with is the dust. its a god damn dust magnet lol

ps3 will win this console war, so why debate it? It's whether or not M$ gains market share that should be debated, and it definately will. The gap between the two companies will be about 10-15million consoles this time.

Really? and that would please you? the console market controlled by Sony, yeah sounds great....

Sony have gotten arrogant, I seem to remember Sega did the same, where are they now.....Xbox got MS a decent market share, 360 is going to get them more, win for them.
