Hi, im currently considering building/upgrading my machine in the comming months however im a bit stumped on what to do with regards to my PSU.

Im looking to purchase a system along the lines of these specs:
1 x Asus P5N-T Deluxe nForce 780i (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
1 x OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8000C5 1000MHz ReaperX HPC Enhanced Bandwidth Edition Dual Channel DDR2 (OCZ2RPX10004GK)
1 x OcUK GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - OEM
1 x Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)
1 x Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 "Energy Efficient SLACR 95W Edition" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - OEM
Also running a Raptor 150gig, and another 500gb storage drive + a dvd writer.

Currently i have a 650 Watt PSU Has 1X PCI-Ex 6 pin connector (not sure of the make but its not a well known branded one) It currently runs a Core 2 Duo 1.8 Ghz, Radeon 1950xt 2 gig DDR2 800 system with the above HDD's and dvd drive fine. Im just not sure if it will be ok with the new stuff im considering buying.

I've read numerous guides on how to calculate the power usage you will need, but it all seems a bit over my head to be honest. Also i was told that the graphics card i was wanting to buy requires 2X PCI-Ex 6 pin connectors? not sure on this one, if so i will defo need a new PSU, maybe someone can confrim this? I am also considering upgrading to an SLI combi later on.....

Any advice is appreciated, so to conclude: Will my existing PSU cope, or will i need a new one and if so any recommendations and why!?

Without knowing a bit more about your current PSU it would be difficult to even guess how it would cope, it might well do but not all PSUs are created equal so the headline figure of 650w is less important than what it supplies on the 12v rail and how stably it supplies it.

The basics of your system look pretty good there so I'd suggest also buying a new PSU that you know will be decent and saving on any sort of worry. The Corsair HX 520w (if you aren't considering SLi at any point in the future) or HX 620w are both worth a look.

Thanks for the reply,

I've kinda decided to go with changing out the case etc also, so il be going for a new psu also, was thinking one of the OCZ 850W ones - maybe even one of the PSU's that overclockers do bundled with the Antec 182....
