Could use some help with speakers

I drive an AstraVan sportive 2004, and probably will do untilll the end :o

Anyway, the right speaker has never worked, and the standard stereo is shocking.
I'm going to buy a new stereo and speakers soon-ish, but today in the meantime I decided to remove the door panels ready for when I do.

The left was working alright, but right, nothing, so I removed both and swapped, and to my surprise the speakers were not faulty, it seems to be the wiring...

I'm still going to get some decent speakers and the new radio, but I dont know what to do about the wiring??
Does anyone know what I should do about this?

Thanks

Check the wire for signal with a multimeter? Could be a knackered channel on the back of the existing head unit.

If its the drivers side speaker it could also be the wiring in the rubbery link to the door that has broken as it comes under quite a lot of stress with the door opening and closing all the time.

If you've got it all apart anyway then run a short test wire from the head unit FR out to the speaker just to make sure the current head unit is actually outputting a signal.

After that you'll be playing faulty wiring tracing as above. Couple of areas to check as a first of are the rubber between body and door where the wires run through and anywhere tight / sharp between the head unit and door.

I personally wouldn't replace even the whole run for that speaker.

If you can see the problem area then just cut it at that point and solder in a slightly longer piece of new wire, the extra length should help a bit with the abrasion of the door opening and closing.

Alternatively if you struggle to pinpoint the issue then you could run a whole new length from the plug end of the loom right down to where the speaker is, shouldn't be too difficult to strip out what you need in an astra

Incase any of you were worried sick about my problem:

My new head unit arrived today before I could even test any wires. So I tried plugging in the new stereo and both speakers worked, so I guess the old stereo must have have been dog :)
