Both of them require levels of flexibility and strength most of us can barely dream of but maybe they're too graceful to be "real" sports?

It's down to personal preference, clearly the whole idea is to explain why they are signifcant to you rather than if they actually are.

That's an interpretation but not the only possible one, it could be factual rather than subjective so it might be perfectly correct to describe significant events in their context rather than based on what they mean to you as an individual.
