Could You Perform?

No dont think I could, the top level game is played so quick both physically and mentally. The top footballers have very quick football brains and can think about several options and mostly choose the best, all the while having the balll at their feet running and a defender charging at them. I wouldnt be able to do this, this is what seperates the amateur from the professional.

Not a chance. I feel I'm a good footballer and pretty fit now. International level is a different kettle of fish.

Nobody on here is good enough to play for England or they would be playing football. I mean maybe a few people are good enough for League 2 or the Conference with training but nothing more.

IMO

The best footballers most probably do not have to think...

(they are certainly not articulate enough to describe their thought processes anyway)

I'm not so sure, at least in a one off game. If you watch highlights from a lower league game, you may see a striker put a 30 yard screamer into the top corner, or a keeper pull off a fantastic save. You might think to yourself about how good it was, and that a goal/save like that would certainly be good enough to grace the Premiership. You can see the same thing on the pitch at a Sunday league game. It's all down to how often you play like that.

In a one off game at my absolute best (ie, my best game of all time), I don't think I would look too out of place, considering I've on occassion made saves of a very high level. As I said before, I think it's down to consistency. A keeper like me may make a world class save once every season or two, while the best keepers do it almost every training session. That's the reason I'm sat at my pc now slacking from work instead of training for my world cup spot :D

No-one here would be able to play for England because:

a) The England team is made up of something like the top 0.00001% of the most talented players in the country and Gary Neville. If you were even in the top 1% of players you'd be playing League 2 at least.

b) They train every day of their careers to a level of near super human fitness, rather than talk about it on message boards. Alex Ferguson described Lampard as a 'freak'; apparently he runs about 8 miles per game.

I was going to say that. I played semi professional with future & past pros (at the time) & the gulf is incredible. Imagine the gulf between Sunday leaguers & the best in England:)

i (well me dad) knew a lad that didnt make it pro through an illness (played at middlesbrough youth i think) and the stuff he could do with a ball was unreal.. obviously he wasnt the best footballer in the world but it was still great to watch.... shame there are loads more people that dont make it than do obviously, but be awful to miss out through health reason

A lot less than you might think. I've seen some great keepers playing between the sticks on a Sunday morning (better than me easily), and some of them look more than capable of going to a higher level. As I said before, it's consistency that I think makes all the difference in a lot of cases.

I think keepers have a lot less to worry about in some respects as well, as their job is simple - keep the ball out of the net. It's much more complicated outfield where you have 10 outfield opponents and 9 outfield teammates to contend with.

I think you would all be very shocked at how good they are!
I would be better than owen hargreaves.

My best assets are that I am still very fast, decent stamina and powerfull and stong when on the run. Just trying to get my finishing back from a long injury.

No way I could compete, my pace might get me a run in the conference! lol

I'd be interested to know how fast people think they are, does anybody have any sprint times? I use to be good over 400m, but I wouldn't consider that useful in a football game.

As for playing in the England team no chance. You could stick me up front or out wide and I'd hold the ball up, but I'm nowhere near fit enough to make good runs on and off the ball. And like other people have said, I'd be surprised if anyone on here could play at that level.

As for my best football attributes, they would have to be height, strength, short passing, shooting and the odd trick. If I was still as fit as I was at 15-20 I wouldn't have a problem with running around with the ball a lot, but not any more.

Sub 12 seconds 100m back when I was 16, which isn't anything special but isn't slow. :o

When I was 16 my PB was 11.1 on lumpy grass in trainers and regularly ran under 11.5. I am now 20 and have put on 3 stone of muscle so wouldent like to guess, I feel just as fast as I did though. Not setting the track alight, but not slow. I dont play with anyone quicker than me.

Pointless thread TBH

Don't put a downer on this thread mate. I made the thread cause I wanted to see what other people think and get to know the other footballers on the forums.

Don't like the thread, don't post.

Thanks for all the replies and input guys.
