Hi all..

First post and hello....:D

This place was highly recommended by friends of mine so was hoping you could help me out.

Been doing a lot of reading about different specs for builds.

Wanting to build a good unit as previous ones have had some `handmedown` parts.

Bought some kit and was wondering if what I have so far is ok.

Case -
HAF 932

Motherboard -
ASUS M4N75TD

Cpu -
AMD Phenom X4 955 3.2GHZ BLACK SKT AM3

Psu -
ANTEC 650W

Os -
WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE 64

Hard drives -
2 x Samsung 500G

To buy.....

Ram -
CRUCIAL CT2KIT51264BD1339 - (2 kits = 16GIG)

Graphics card -
??????
Sli -
??????
(havent got a clue here...got an old GTS8800OC BFG at the moment)

Cooler -
COOLERMASTER - V8 or V10 or ?

Thinking about an SSd for Windows ??

Mainly for video through the Plasma TV 42"
Blue Ray, gaming.. etc

Needs to be good for streaming onto the big screen too.

I dont mind paying for kit that is good, I dont want to scrape the barrel on hardware.

Anything I forgot ?

Thanks in advance.

Chris.

Should have waited before buying any components and then posted on forum. Are you going to build around the components you have brought already?

Yeah,

The only hardware I have bought so far is the motherboard and cpu...

Recommended by an IT mate of mine, dont tell me their not upto it..:(

The other components I have already in this build I`m on now.

Chris.

how long ago did you buy the cpu and mb? if its not been 7 working days, would suggest you return them under dsr and give your it mate a good kicking(oh and get the return delivery cost off him) ;)

amd is rubbish compared to intel at the moment, bulldozer may change that when its released.

budget would be helpful so we can suggest parts or else we'll be guessing.

Why ? whats wrong with them ?

Current set up...

MS Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 90nm
Asrock K10N78D (CPUSocket) mobo
640mb GeForce 8800 GTS (BFG Tech)
2.00 GB Dual channel DDR2 @236Mhz (4-4-4-12)
Dell 2005FPW (1680x1050@60Htz)
2x 500GIG Western Digital WDC (SATA)
VIA High Definition Audio (built in board)

It must run better than this lot, wanting a significant increase in everything.

Dont want to go mad with money, just an effective upgrade.

If you need more details of what I am running at the moment I can post it up.

Thanks for any input.

Chris.

Basing your upgrade around AMD Phenom X4 955 3.2GHZ BLACK SKT AM3 is not a bad thing as it is one of the best bang for buck cpus. Intel domminate the market with sandybridge especially systems buit around the i5 processor and the 2500k being the overclockers choice, which most of us would advised you to purchase.

OH and welcome to the forum :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

lets just say the intel cpus currently walk all over amd cpus(look at all the benchmarks), but amd are hoping to change that with bulldozer.

yes the one you've bought should be better than your current system but just not as good as it could have been :)

I don't know much about the amd cpus since athlon 1800-3200 skt a(I believe) days, if the mb you've chosen will be getting a bios upgrade to give it bulldozer compatibility then you're set otherwise you'll need to upgrade the mb as well when upgrading to bulldozer in the future.
