Hi, I've literally 2 minutes ago purchased a Titan Goliath with the ATI Radeon HD 5850 option (first of all was that graphics card a good decision?) and I'm now in need of a monitor which I will buy as soon as my student loans go through on monday.

I'm after a 24" monitor to use mostly for gaming, with a budget of about £230 give or take. I'd also like it to have 1080 hd support. Ive looked at quite a few but I was hoping for some advice from the overclockers forums.

Haha just like me, I'm waiting for my Student Loan to come through on Monday to buy myself a Samsung T260HD Monitor.

For a 24" with that budget I would say go for:

DELL G2410

It's £10 more but a very good screen.

I was considering that screen, but I'm after a monitor with hdmi.
At the minute im looking at this new acer monitor new acer monitor. Its a little over my budget but the super thin screen is doing it for me.

In fact I've just had a look at the Samsung SyncMaster P2450H on another site and looks pretty good for only £190. What do you think?

Check out the Dell ST2410, it's their newish 24" TN panel and has an HDMI port. It's pretty cheap on the Dell site atm :)

that does look nice and dirt cheap too! i should get 2 of them! but seriously.. the 5ms, would a monitor with 2ms be a better investment?

everyone goes on about lower response time = better for gaming.
In the real world, no, you will not notice ANY difference whatsoever. The only people that it really matters to are keen gamers (more specifically FPS players) that play competitively, lose, then find some lame excuse - "Oh I got input lag on screen it's a 5ms not 2ms".
No difference whatsoever :)

I said at most £40 i normally look for high quality meshed thick cables that are gold plated and have the highest bandwidth possible.

You don't ned to spend that much on an HDMI cable. Because it's digital (not analoge) the quality of the cable has very little to no effect on the picture/audio quality unless it really is a badly made cable (this was backed up by a test/study done on various cables, don't have the link to hand). You can easily get a decent cable for under £10, prob £5 from the usual online retailers. The only real reason to spend more is if you need the cable to run for 5-10m+.

Something like this would be more than good enough: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-037-AK

EDIT: I just re-read the thread (rhyme) and you already bought one. Err soz.

On another note, I agree with the points about overpriced cables. Im pretty sure it makes almost no difference when its digital, the info either gets there correctly or it doesnt. I suppose if it was a terrible cable the resistance might be high enough to introduce lag, but thats just me guessing Ive never heard anything about it.
