i work full-time; if i move into a shared house consisting of myself and 2-3 students will i be soley responsible for the council tax bill? and if so will i be entitled to any discount or anything?

yes, you'll be responsible. you may be eligible for the single occupancy discount too.
how much is that? because the way i see it is this - my rent is 250 and bills around 50 p/m, so with council tax i'm looking at ~400 for a room in a rented house. shocking.

consider it this way..

Live by yourself = Full council tax

Live with students = Discount

Not sure how you worked that one out... the only discount for living with studens is that the single person occupancy discount would apply, which you'd get if you living alone anyway.

As a student who doesn't pay council tax I'd say tough luck. :p
It's this kind of attitude which really ****** me off.
-If I were to live with students I would be paying the council tax for each and every person in the house, so that they could get a good education. And this is the thanks I get?

The whole "Im paying so you can get an education" doesnt hold water... as they will (most likely) pay council tax in the very near future.
Yes but the fact that they'll be paying in the future doesn't change the fact that my wallet's going to be empty in the present because I'm paying their share does it?

you're not paying their share! you're paying your share!

their share is infact £0 if they are students!

Yes but my share is more expensive because students are exempt from council tax. So actually I -am- paying their share, and so is everyone else who pays council tax.
