council tips

You've just answered your own question.:)

Transits are normally commercial vehicles, a lot of dodgy traders try to cut costs by not paying for the disposal of commercially produced waste.

It did say "Enterprise" on the side of it. They may well look at rusty POS types with a Mobile number on the side slightly differently.

depends on the council and the people manning the "recycling center".

my old local one the jobsworths would have an absolute meltdown if you tried to enter in a vehicle larger than an estate car as theyd deem it a "commercial vehicle". they certainly wouldnt let you walk in.

Long story short, she returned home with a car full of bricks and rubble i called the local ***** rubbish guy and he took everything from the car and all my other rubbish for £40.

You are aware that if the "*****" had just dumped it somewhere and it had your details or a way to track where it came from you would be liable to be prosecuted for fly tipping?

Derby Council do the same with the permit. You have to apply to the council to get a permit to take a commercial vehicle to the refuse/recycling place. Its for people that have a lot of stuff they are wanting to get rid of and either borrow or hire a van as you are not allowed to take a commercial vehicle to a council run public refuse/recycling site. I think they normally last for 3-5 trips.

They also charge £8.95 for a single item, £12.95 for up to 3 Items and £14.95 for up to 5 items. I have used them on a few occasion as have friends and family and I have never heard of them taking the money and not turning up.

That sucks. Oldham council allows you to use most vehicles. No charge what so ever.

You can make as many trips as you like. The day i chucked my old sofas out. I must have made 4-5 trips that day. No permit required.

Some council in UK are just robbing ******** and thats all they care. How to screw & gain money from the public.

The tip here will let you take rubbish in a rented van if you have ID and the rental agreement. The permit is a bit of paper filled in as you arrive and it is free.

That's how it works here as well just flash them the rental agreement and they open up the top of the gate so you can drive through.

I've always found the ones at my local council to be jobsworths as well.

It can actually be quite confusing as there are so many different areas to place each type of thing, that sometimes you are unsure what is supposed to go where. The problem is that they spend their time hiding in their office/shed and looking out the window. As soon as they spot something wrong, they come out and moan about it, rather than being outside and offering advice.

For example I had a computer monitor to throw away and couldn't find anywhere to put it other than electronics. It was only when I was driving out that near the gate I spotted an area for TVs and Monitors and nobody was about to tell me this.

One time I was throwing away some wood, but there were some bits of wood chip and smaller pieces in it. I'd been throwing this away for about 5 minutes making numerous trips to my car when one decides to come out and has a massive go at me, because apparently the small bits were supposed to go in general garden waste or something, so I now had to fish them back out.

I also notice they come sneaking out of their shed when they think there might be something worth them salvaging, which is why the bins for things like electronics are never sealed up and they tend to have it so you have to leave it at the side.

What, what's with the permit? Not heard such thing.

In Oldham council have a service called Bulky Bob. They charge £15 up to 3 items. Best part is they take your money first but the ***** never come round to take your bulky items.

If you know someone who has an estate car with very large boot. The. Get hold of the person. It's what u did 2 weeks ago when u needed to chuck my old sofas away.

This is why I hate having an estate - people (sometimes that I don't know who are friends of the family) ringing me to ask if I can move things for them, without paying a penny.

Depending on the size of your tip it might have a bin for top soil.

Ours from memory has separate containers for
Hardcore and pottery etc
Soil (I think)
Wood
Manmade wood
Cardboard
General waste
garden waste
metals
small appliances
large household appliances

Then smaller bins/areas for things like
bottles
batteries (consumer)
car batteries
florescent bulbs
engine oil
kitchen oil
magazines/papers
CRT's (seems to be getting smaller as time goes by)
Fridge/Freezers
Gas bottles

I've always thought that would happen and a lot if I ever had a van.

I have a large family, I've always had estates to get my music gear around and I've never once been asked in decades.

Can you remember when Stoke tip used to have blokes looking at the contents of every vehicle and would send some cars to the exit :D
It didn't last long because vehicles were backing up to the A500 and Campbell Road on a Sunday morning.

I accidentally dropped a black bin bag in the garden waste hopper whilst emptying out some hedge cuttings and some old A hole in a suit came marching over to me having a right go at me saying that will cost the council money.

Soon shut up when I said that's rich from someone who's from joke on Trent city council council

As far as permits for vans are concerned your allowed 14 trips to the local tip in a commercial van but I'm usually watched, they automatically think I'm gonna unload commercial waste

What's with the whole stopping people from unloading if they've borrowed a mates van rather than making 10 trips in your Fiesta? What would they rather you did, dumped it in a lay-by?!
