The good news is as you get older and hopefully get good at what you do, the discussion moves away from "what do you earn today" to "what do you need to earn to join us".

The company you work for 99/100 will only pay you what they can get away with paying you.

Ask yourself several questions before moving.

#1 Do you want to move Job?
#2 Are you happy where you currently are? If not why not? Is it just Pay? If so you have solved this issue.
#3 What are the promotion prospects in both jobs?
#4 Which job has a better chance of your salary being upped or has a better bonus scheme?
#5 Are there any perks?
#6 What is the commute like to both places?

I exaggerated by 5k, i could probably explain away 2k with pension/bonus etc, i did only say it verbally, though one of the guys was taking notes, im more concerned now with this than anything, as i dont want to start a new job and get sacked due to exaggerating my current salary :(

£5k verbal exaggeration is no big deal, you are not going to get sacked over it even if they find out and as mentioned a fair amount of that can be explained away. It's not gonna be like, eh we expected this guy to have £15k gross earnings YTD but he only has £12.5k, quick somebody call the cops.

Forgot to mention earlier, salary sacrifice is another reason some people may have slightly lower earnings that quoted. I can't see there being anything that will jump out at them.

Also, if you have any outstanding accured holiday from your current job then get that paid which will again boost your P45 balance.

thanks for the input everyone, i decided to go both feet in and take the new job, it has better progression propects, an easier commute and better perks, so no point regretting now!
