I think I'm going mad but no matter what pc I own the game does not feel right, ok here is where it gets confusing as my older pc an x2 4400 on a 939 mobo was fine as well as my older generation pc's. I upgraded to a quad 6600 & fully reinstalled and still the same so I thought maybe it was intel so went back to amd & well its the same...

problem

keyboard & movement feels spongey like I feel like I'm pressing the keys forever to get a response, tried a 3 keyboards usb & ps2 aswell another mouse but it remains, why did I get rid of my older pc. Has anyone else had the same issue and resolved it.

thanx

kev

huh  u cant press 3 buttons at once or they respond late i dont get it ?

Are you just perma-drunk or something?

He tried three different keyboards, not three different keys on the same keyboard.

^ someone has a problem i guess.

for the guy who has late response on keys should try control panel and check keyboard delay

The is the issue you see, straffe left & right aswell as forward and back, Its not the keyboard or mouse and s far as I know its not the pc & I know how it must sound when I explain it.

current pc's amd x2 6000 with an ati4870 and a q6600 with an amd 9800gt oc, both machines perform the same no matter what drivers, operating system or peripherals.

Keyboards tested saitek eclipse 1 & 2, 1 compaq server keyboard (ps2) 1 standard keyboard.
mice, mx510 blue, mx510 red, g9 laser

onboard sound aswell as my plantronics dsp 500, obviously there has been something odd with my older pc's that is right with the new ones but if anyone as experienced what appears to feel like input lag or lack of responsiveness how did they cure it?

are you playing with vsync on? I get plenty of input lag if running with vsync, I hear you can set a frame cap at 59fps as opposed to 60 to prevent this. personally I live with a little tearing.

I've got a 24" dgm tft so vsync is on but set at 60, tearing is quite bad otherwise, it makes me think was there something wrong with my old machines that I got used to when the allegedly newer pc's feel slower in cs. When I get vsync off I need to tripple buffer it to get rid of the tearing but that does not improve things.

Is this source or 1.6

In 1.6 I would always play with v-sync off as although there was tearing the game felt better to play. Using v-sync made it feel like you were running on ice and had less control :S

Tipsy did you use any launch option commands ?

Here is a list of them, and what they do.

* -console - this will enable the Half Life console. Press ~ (tilde) to bring it down in game, or use the console button in the main menu.

* -game <variable> - this will set the custom game to whatever variable is set. eg cstrike, dod, dmc. The valid variables are the abbreviated names of the mods inside your base halflife directory.

* -numericping - this will replace those goofy dots in the Halflife game browser with your actual ping time (measured in milliseconds, not dots )

* -noipx - this will disable IPX support. Which is fine, because you don't need IPX at all for Halflife. Recommended

* -noip - useful for single player. Will disable IP. (note: im not sure about this one).

* -nointro - This is to skip the two avi's at the start.

* -nojoy - disables joystick support.

* -noforcemparms -noforcemaccel - This will disable mouse acceleration. Useful for windows XP

* -toconsole - when you open hl.exe with this parameter, it will load straight into the console.

* -dev - enables developer mode. Useful for testing a homemade map, or debugging. Will show a more detailed summary of what is being loaded/initialized in the console. Use 'developer 1' and 'developer 2' in console to set debug message detail level

* -d3d - will use direct 3D only.

* -gl - will use OpenGL only.

* -soft - will use software rendering only.

* -full - will use fullscreen mode. Again, not important.

* -window - window mode.

* -wavonly - will disable directsound, and attempt to play all sound files as wav files.
* -w <variable> - sets video mode width (variable is number of pixels wide).
* -gamegauge - runs the demo in demoname.dem in benchmaking mode and saves the results in fps.txt file. 1.0.0.9+ only. Can do the same thing in-game with cl_gg 1; gg in the console.

* -heapsize <variable> - Where <variable> is how much RAM you got. Say you got 32 MB of RAM. Replace the variable with 32768. Don't be foolish and replace the variable with more than what you got in RAM. People with more than 64 MB of RAM sometimes feel that it's not using the RAM being supplied. Well, they're right. This command invokes to show Half-Life all the RAM that you have and it can be used.

* -particles <variable> - Variable number is the number of particles for which to set aside buffer space. This is useful for seraching for leaks in maps.

* -port <variable> - will set the port (for a listen server). Default is 27015.

* -zone <variable> - appears to solve most script memory errors if you set it to 1024 (I believe the default is 255). Maybe the max line length (in characters) of a script or cfg file.

ok tried all teh above & now shoved the 4870 in my q6600 machine and its still the same although a tad faster. I've seen all the above before and despite 100fps its still jerky but better, are there any more suggestions.

Sorry its a bit late for teh reply as I never go a chance to test stuff due to sitting in the maternity ward with my wife :D no baby yet so atleast something is going right ;)

deffo not a ping issue as it was fine on the other pc, ping is 25-30ish & also I must say its a cz issue aswell although not a css or team fortress2 thing. I was wondering are there any ways of speeding the keyboard up? (ps2 or usb ideas would be good) sounds silly I know but thats a silly question from me :D

I'm at work at the mo so any suggestion I'll play with with I get in tonight at 22:00.

It sounds like vsync to me... can't stand vsync everything feels so rubber bandy even with tripple buffering... I don't know why anyone would use it in an FPS game.
