Counterstrike: 1.6 or Source?

They're the same.

Except Recoil is huge in 1.6. Bot spray headshots crouchers in 1. No scoping whilst moving shoots miles off for some pathetic reason, in 1.6.

Source was easier to pick up and go ahead with, but in terms of the style, they're nearly the same. In Source you can actually feel more in touch with the game when you first start because there's no crazy algorithms you have to try and live with. Point and shoot. then win.

If you want to bring up mechanics...

1.6 you can shoot through thick walls to kill people with a pistol if you know where likely hiding spots are on the other side. Wallbanging.

1.6 has a shield for CT which is bulletproof even against sniper rifles despite the fact that guns can kill through concrete.

1.6 when you throw a grenade it floats through the air like a beer can in slow motion.

1.6 sound is not directional, someone walks up to you, you hear footsteps but unless you already know the directions they might be coming from you can't tell where from.

1.6 is heavily populated by players who tried the new game, were upset by the differences and chose instead to stay with the old game they knew rather than migrate.

The graphics are dated, model movement is snappy not smooth. There's a lot of things against it. But when you get right down to it the game is the same. Team A, Team B, kill each other/complete a mission objective.

But play enough of either and you'll grow to like it because your game awareness and skills will improve for that specific version and naturally you'll do better. Just don't expect skills to transfer too well to the other.

Where to start..

1. There is one pistol that can wallbang, the deagle, and I have aside from possibly the odd lucky shot when someone is low on health, it is not feasible to kill someone through banging with it.

2. The CT shield never, ever gets used in any sort of proper game (scrim/pcw etc.), and most servers ban it.

3. The grenade physics are weird, Ill give you that - But allows for some very creative throws.

4. You need some new headphones, thats simply not true. Sound also travels a LOT further on 1.6, allowing you to second guess your enemies movements a lot mroe effectively.

1.6 is populated by people that dont like Source, for a variety of reasons - Normally not because of the changes. Terrible reg is the main compaint. Saying the games play the same is not really true either. Matches on source are generally a lot more fast paced and arcadey, less slow and tactical.

The source hitboxes are a point of complaint though I should imagine this applies to internet gaming generally. I suppose some games are worse than others in this respect.

Really this is a silly argument about these games, there both good for different reasons, some prefer source others 1.6. The general theory though dude is to go with source, as it will be much more user friendly to you and your work mates.

im liking most people shouting for source

got really really sick of hearing people try to say 1.6 is better, because it really isn't, and I loved it, played it since beta 6/7, over summer holidays 2000 I must have spent on average 4/5 hrs a day on it (sad I know)

imo the people that say 1.6 is better are those who didn't have good enough PCs to run CSS so that it looked much better. Wallbanging got ridiculous. Grenade throws that felt fine before CSS, now going back, feel so bad. Physics in general are improved + realistic over 1.6. Recoil is I guess subjective, but for me the recoil patterns in CSS were better than 1.6 (random patterns?)

And then 'reg is better in 1.6' personally I think that is garbage...on a good server I'd rarely feel I had hit when the server told me I'd missed.
on bad servers maybe, but its not like they had a perfect reg/netcode before? anyone remember the fakelag exploit? (after an update you could use a console command to 'freeze' the screen for about a second and hit people while frozen, so you could hit them behind cover etc.) although that was hotfixed fast.

'too easy' I never understood...since it is a competitive rule based game...so it will be 'too easy' for everyone.
