Counterstrike: 1.6 or Source?

Source, before xmas i bought 1.6 just to see what it was like and it was awful, all the building were huge i felt like a midgit man compared with how source feels. Source was a better game, also more players.

And this is the typical attitude of a Source player. Taking the game at absolute face value, not even considering any related mechanics and going for the 'shinier' option.

I've pld CS for about 10 years & I'm slowly moving to Source, more due to the deathmatch servers that are always good fun.

CBA with clans & all the other crap anymore, jump on a server, shoot like a crazy person & leave. Good fun.

If you want to bring up mechanics...

1.6 you can shoot through thick walls to kill people with a pistol if you know where likely hiding spots are on the other side. Wallbanging.

1.6 has a shield for CT which is bulletproof even against sniper rifles despite the fact that guns can kill through concrete.

1.6 when you throw a grenade it floats through the air like a beer can in slow motion.

1.6 sound is not directional, someone walks up to you, you hear footsteps but unless you already know the directions they might be coming from you can't tell where from.

1.6 is heavily populated by players who tried the new game, were upset by the differences and chose instead to stay with the old game they knew rather than migrate.

The graphics are dated, model movement is snappy not smooth. There's a lot of things against it. But when you get right down to it the game is the same. Team A, Team B, kill each other/complete a mission objective.

But play enough of either and you'll grow to like it because your game awareness and skills will improve for that specific version and naturally you'll do better. Just don't expect skills to transfer too well to the other.

I've played both for at least 2 years each. Go ahead and get Source I have to say. Much easier to get good at it.

If you're interested in playing anytime, just hit me up. ;)

Some very good points :D

I played cs1.6 and moved to cz and the differences meant I wasn't instantly good moving from one to the other. Moving from cz to css was an even bigger shock.

Also to point out to Mother May that if we just took games at face value even CS Source looks very much out of date these days... :p

everything hotwired says is true except one, sound is fine in 1.6 and you can tell directions ;) but that said the other points still stand and source is a much better game especially if your new to it

Thanks for the very helpfull replys guys.

Some say headshots are too easy in CSS compared to 1.6? Any truth in this?

Even if this is true, I assume this means you just don't poke your head above some crate?

As a die hard fan of the franchise i would say get source. Better value for money with more servers mods, players etc. Its not that its necessarily easier, just that the learning curve is not as severe. 1.6 is good but is seriously seriously dated now. That beautiful game should be put to rest in a museum somewhere .

Where is the cheapest place to buy CSS?

Am open to using cd-key sites.

see if you can scrounge a copy of hl2 game of the year (black box iirc) should have it free with it, should be easier to fin d than css in a bargain bin.

and you can sell/gift hl2.

Sorry to but in, but isn't there a new CS; Condition Zero or is that before source?

I've only played 1.6; good game but the graphics arn't up to much.
