Hey all

Me and a few friends are going to be wanting to buy our own CS:S server soon, but we're unsure of who to buy it from?

We're looking at a 20 man 66tick public server, so does anyone have any recomendations?

Thanks

The higher the tick, the more times the server refreshes, or something along those lines, so it's better to have a higher tick server to give better registry etc, though it needs more power.

Taken from my clan site.

$31.95 16 Players Counter Strike Source

Altho we have a 24 player server now so idunno if the price is up or what, nothing was said about price changes and thats from gameservers.com

Isn't it a bandwidth issue rather than a power issue?

The higher the tick the bigger the cpu useage and the more bandwidth needed.

My 11 man 100 tick server uses more cpu than my 16 man 66 tick server.

66 tick is the best tick to used when having a public server, 100 tick is best for match servers.

me and my Clan had a server with http://www.game2xs.com/
good because it doesnt matter what game you wanted to play because you could swap the server over. lots of config options good bandwidth and stuff. id defiantly recommended them.

* Fully multi-game - swap between 150+ game types at no extra cost!
* 5 FREE IRC bouncers!
* 2 FREE forums on http://forums.game2xs.com .
* 1 FREE TeamSpeak 2 channel.
* Unrivalled network performance via tier-1 Level(3) connectivity.
* Unlimited bandwidth with no extra or hidden costs.
* Unlimited hard drive space.
* Unlimited support for plugins and addons.
* 24/7 support (including phone support during office hours).

I pay 15quid a month for a 16man 100tick public.

How many mates of you are there? Tbh only reason to buy a server is if your filthy rich and dont mind spending the money per moneth, or in a clan.

Add me on xfire/msn if ya wanna chat about it :)

as said before, gameservers are probably the cheapest. We caught a deal with them once, was something like $25 a month for a 16man 66tick.

You've goto think about it more than somewhere to play css. Do you know how to admin a server? Experience? Cany ou afford it every month, cant you just play somewhere else and be regulars and probably get admin rights to help maintain the server andacknowledgement from there?

Well at the moment theres about 5 of us from college all willing to pay an equal share, we are a clan but nothing serious really, thats why we're going public :)

Talking for all of us, i think we're happy to spend anything upto £25 for the initial purchase.. need to speak to them though ;)

Just getting an idea of prices and places to go

Ahh so say I actually owned my own server then I could use that option? :p
if you happen to have a 100mbit line running through your house, then yeah. really though, even if you did physically have your own server, a normal connection would be good for about 5 players.

dustworld.net or .co.uk seem to have really good customer service and good public servers.
Whatever you do, dont buy a server from a new company as a lot of them seem to die quickly ive noticed, and make sure you can try one out both by using their public one and see if they offer a trial for 2hours on a private server, get 10 people on it and play a game, see if anything happens.
Also ask what FPS and tickrate the server is using, the new dustworld ones use 1000fps which is THE best you can get at the moment, but i think 5-700 is decent and you want as high a tickrate as possible

Really no point in that option then lol.

I brought a server from Ammobox, 100tick 13 man server. Worked out about 100 quid for 4 months or something along the lines.

Pm or add my xfire, can sort something for you cheaper.
