Well, they did but in a more interesting way.

A couple were renovating their house in Yorkshire and under the floorboards and concrete, they found a pot containing old gold coins. Turned out they were from the 1600’s and belonged to a Baltic trader.

They we’re auctioned off today and they sold for £750k!

Mental, the most exciting thing I’ve ever found under my floorboards is an empty pack of fags from the 1950’s :(

I found a page from a wartime publication: eves without leaves. Sadly a text intro, no imagery. I keep meaning to drop it into the local museum. Our houses were used by pilots during the war so it might be of interest, or they might want to ignore it. Who knows!

How did someone manage to build the house without finding this pot?

"hidden underneath concrete and 18th Century floorboards."

The house, or at least part of it, inc the floorboards were probably built before the coins were hidden there.

The location was inhabited at the time by a wealthy woman, who was presumably the owner of the gold. The house could predate the burial of the coins. Burying substantial wealth and concreting over it would have been good security in 1727. Or the house could have been built rather shoddily afterwards. I say rather shoddily because the foundation would have been crap if it hadn't disturbed a pot buried shallowly there. Maybe the kitchen was originally an extension and the pot of coins had originally been buried in the garden of the house.

30 years ago when I bought my first house , similar thing happened with my elderly next door neighbour who died - son found a share certificate going back to 1900 or something like that under a rug under his dad's bed. Was worth well over a million pounds. He gave up his job, became an alcoholic losing an eye in the process and was dead within 18 months.

The £750k will help put that witch Greta Thunberg at bay for a few months. Remember though, that the energy crisis begun starting Aug 2021, well before the Russia-Ukraine war.
Ok I'm all for a random tangent but you're going to have to explain that one to me.

From finding gold coins to Great Thunberg insults and an then accurate assessment of the energy crisis timeline.

Blimey, that took a dark turn

How the hell did you get that in and why does an autistic girl anger you so much :)
Or are you in the wrong thread?
