Couple noobie gym questions

My routine is 10 minutes cross trainer, 10 minutes on the bike, some stretches, and then about 30 minutes on the weights, then I reckon about ten mins floor work. Then if I have time head for a swim.

I change my routine every couple of months.

that could be fantastic or it could be very poor, depending on what your goals are :p

often? i rarely see BIG personal trainers unless they specialise in BB'ing or PL'in. The main reason for this is people want to be like their PTs, so, looking like what your customer wants is a good advert.
Also, women (a big chunk of PT users) don't want big hefty men training them.
Your standard PT will be fit and normally have a body that most people aspire to. Your standard random gym PT will just be fit and generally healthy.

Fair point, well made :) I know a few PTs who're very into their BB work, so maybe my view is a little skewed.

Firstly stop doing these! They are for Girls or Gays :D

haha! Whilst I appreciate this post is in jest, you wouldn't believe how many people think like this. However, for sportmen and those requiring agility and balanced, working the adductors/abductors is very important :)

As for tone. WELL... I'm not going to bang on much because i left my flameproof jacket at home. Surfice it to say that when PTs say tone, they refer to the number of muscle fibres constantly recruited to maintain posture and stability. The theory goes that increasing tone means increasing the firmness of the muscle, rather than how pronounced it looks (which is mass + bf%). It's also an easy way for us to explain an improvement in physique without banging on too much about scary things like bodyfat percentages and muscle mass :p

Ant

Am i the only one getting turned on by WantoN's science?
Must be all those adductors flyes i've been doing of late :p

But seriously....

Adductor flyes for martial artists are invaluable and really do help stabilise posture and improve flexibility no end.

I was joking when i said i'd been doing adductor flyes lately. I've not done them for years, but when i do attempt them, i can't walk for frikkin days afterwards! :(
