Couple of toys added to the MX

Cool, same power output as mine :)

I removed the central console bit, installed the IPOD interface box just infront of the ruber gearchange boot (kinda pushed up into the underside of the dash / against the transmission tunnel).

Ran the wires down the tunnel (Above the carpet) then push the wire through the remote petrol cap / boot lid release slot.

My central console bin didn't have a padded bottom so i cut some black speaker grill felt to fit and it looks good, the ipod is wedged in with my oakleys case :)

Took loads of pics yesterday so i will post one or two later tonight :)

I was tempted to run the Ipod wire into the glovebox section then the Ipod would be wedged in using the service books etc!

Peak torque is around 4.5k, so that's why it starts to pull harder. It effectively is when the cam profile changes, not VTEC at all which has an extra cam lobe, standard cams rock up and changes the cam profile over the inlets/outlets, leaving them open longer ergo more power.

How do the cams change profile without a VVC system? I know with VTEC there is an unused larger cam in which, under VTEC, gets bolted to the working cams to keep them open longer. Just wondering how cams change profile without something like this?

As far as the Mazda's concerned there isn't a variable valve system on mine, but the cam profile produces the most torque at 4.5k revs that's all.

The Alfa's V8 the cam is controlled by a rocker arm and when it gets to a certain engine speed the rocker arm moves over making the cam in a bigger "valve lift" position. This may well be completely invalid for an inline 4.

Which exhaust would you guys recommend, can't remember which one you have Sam, what does it sound like, deep or a sports rasp?

Edit - Also do you think twin pipes (one each side) looks way OTT or stylish?

again my zorst is the standard Is one, although its got a different tip (which is a little worse for ware now :( ) but i love the sound of it.

The Racing Beat Twin is lovely and totally suits the car really well. Its pretty damn noisey thou, but does sound nice. I'm kinda holding out on the zorst stuff till i decide what i want to do FI wise as i'd prefer to get a zorst to match that. But i do like the sound of the current one, i've heard it refered to as the nicest production car sound around by several auto journalists.

Apparently a decent induction really makes the car sound nice thou :D Although again i'm saving for FI

The twin exhausts looks the dogs! When I can afford it I'll be doing a dual exhaust conversion. However I am currently about to go and install a turbo, so the exhaust is a bit more a carefully thought out issue. (I keep saying about this turbo... been talking about it for ages... I hope it happens this month... :o)

As for a standard exhaust installers, Longlife do fantastic exhausts which sound fabulous.

You could go for some of these though ;)

To make it complete you can get one of these too:

;) But that's just getting silly. A decent standard s/s exhaust system will probably set you back around £400 or so I would have thought. That's how much it cost for my ST24 when I had that redone (up to the CAT).

oops, sorry i ment the racing beat singles, and the IL twin....

the twin zorsts really suit the cars, and the FM ones Will has pointed out are great too :)

Pleased you both thinking along the same lines as me, dual pipes look so so smart and will be my next major buy.

Still not sure which system to go for, we have a exhaust fabrication place near me which will build systems to your spec but i don't want the car loosing any back pressure hence performance so a proper performance tested system would be my pref.

A new header would be nice but its getting towards silly amounts of money and limits any future forced induction upgrades ;)

Cheers for the links, looks like its time to count up my pennys again :(

Will Take a photo of the console back on tomorrow and the ipod in the center bin, looks good imho and all out of the way, just need to fit the amp and run my speaker wires now, going for some 8" / 20cm pioneers in the doors i think :)
