Thought I would post the links up for anyone that was interested, I was at Rally Day at Castle Coombe this weekend and got myself a couple of track sessions, I've not been on track for a year or so due to breaking the transfer box at the Ring/SPA last year and spent most of my spare cash this year on a new kitchen so it was really good to get out again although I took it a bit easy because of weather! :)

Unfortunately because I left getting track time a bit late I ended up being put in the back of 2 dedicated Subaru sessions so basically I was the only Evo out with a bunch of Subarus... that could only end well I was thinking lol.

Luckily they were all good guys with good track day etiquette so no Mitsubishi/Subaru rivalry ;) Its all good fun though considering conditions were not great and there was a real quick supercharged Civic Type-R on 888's on the sessions as well, you can see him pushing it hard in session 2 as he goes mega wide once or twice :)

Had a little play with a rally prep'd Escort at the end of session 2 as well then had a little chat to him in the paddock :)

Oh and yes my lines are by no means perfect I know that :p

blimey, that CTR is got a bat on in the first vid.

quite fancy a bash at combe

what did you use to record?

Not watched the videos yet, but I personally found Combe really fast and quite exciting. That was with obstacles on the track too as I was doing a sprint :D

Due to your line you are losing so much time going into your corners. Your exit is fine though.
Thats interesting, if you look I am generally turning in where the cones are which they put out on track days, I have done so many laps of Coombe now I don't even look at the cones but I just watched some of the vids myself and I am generally turning in where the cones are although at Quarry corner I am turning in a bit earlier to be fair, I was letting off and braking pretty early on these vids as well due to ground not being perfectly dry :)

You mean 2nd vid? ;) The CTR was behind my in the first vid and never got past, he was giving it everything in the 2nd vid, you see him go mega wide onto the grass in Quarry corner, conditions were not the best for driving on the edge that day!

Coombe is a fast track but a rewarding one, the chicanes are great at speed and if you keep your foot in along Folly into Avon Rise its an amazing feeling, I can get around 140mph up there :)

Filmed on my GoPro 2 just mounted on windscreen inside :)

Cheers chaps, quick spec:

  • Totally stripped out Evo IV shell, only 2 seats and dash remain (dont know the weight though)
  • Bolt in roll-cage and front/rear strut braces
  • Tein Monoflex Coilovers set up pretty hard and a bit of neg camber
  • Performance Friction floating discs, Carbotech XP10 pads
  • Forged Tommi Mak engine, Kelford 272 cams, big TB, big FMIC, big HEL oil cooler, Walbro fuel pump, 750cc injectors, tubular manifold, Hydra Nemesis stand-alone ECU with launch control and anti-lag, breather system, 3" full stainless exhaust, HKS mushroom filter plus lots of other little bits and bobs and mods etc :)
Engine is built/rated for 600bhp but im running on the max limit of the current turbo so making just over 430bhp currently, see vid below from the last OcUK rolling road day which was recorded by someone on here :)

Cheers bud :) I do want a Garrett GTX3076R turbo to take me into the 500-550bhp region, a set of 6-pot calipers with bugger discs and maybe some better coilovers but its all money I dont have at the moment as im trying to get some work done on my house so no spare cash for the car, just enjoying the track at the moment, I deffo need to go back to the Nurburgring and SPA Francorchamps again though as that was an epic road trip last year :D

Quite funny how easy you pass the enemy :D

This was the last time the Evo 4 will see a track, end of last year when it went it for its MOT we discovered I've badly cracked one of the rear chassis legs :(

7+ years of track abuse on very hard coilovers have taken its toll I think, it is repairable if I put enough into it but I decided to move on and bought an Evo 6 shell now and in the middle of a re-shell project over the winter :)

Bloody hell, that certainly shifts! Often wondered about using one of these as a track car, how do you find it?

Cheers bud, Evo's make great track cars with a few mods but the more you do to them the more they become a money pit at times (suppose same can be said about a lot of cars) but its all worth it when out giving it some on track, just enjoying it while I can :)
