Morning all,

As usual I've been a little out of the loop regarding hardware lately, and was considering giving my PC a little boost in performance, for modern games etc.

Current specs:

Asus P5B motherboard - http://uk.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=0&model=1179&modelmenu=1
Core2duo E6420 2.13 - overclocked to about 2.56 atm
2GB 800MHz RAM
Nvidia Geforce 7900GS

I think that's all that's relevant..

Now I was wondering if it's worth upgrading the CPU? Maybe to something like a Q6700? Would it be worthwhile? Should I just overclock it some more? :D

Was also gonna get another GB or so of RAM.

Would an Nvidia GTX260 be a worthwhile graphics card upgrade for things like GTA IV, etc?

I still use XP 32bit at the moment :o, any performance gains to be had by using Vista/Server 2008? Apart from >4gb of RAM and DX10. I don't like Vista :(

Finally, what about the motherboard? Are there decent gains to be had by getting a "higher end" core2duo board, or not?

Thanks :)

dont bother with the cpu, but yeah get more RAM and better gfx card, mobo should be ok, if you start looking at mobo and CPU then you may as well go i7, if I were you Id try n get onto 64bit OS personally but your call

i would leave your motherboard, clock the cpu to at least 3.0GHz and add this to the mix :D

If your just playing games and browsing the web on your PC, then do the above. If you video/photo edit on your PC, then get the Q6700 as it is at a good price atm.

Thanks guys.

Isn't the GTX260 significantly better than the HD4850?

i wouldnt say significantly better, more in the range of the 4870, didnt know how much you would like to spend.

i would go ati anyway if i were you, your mobo supports x-fire so that would make upgrades later on a little easyier :)
