COVID-19 (Coronavirus) discussion

I think the governments handling of the lockdown showed they didn't know how to handle it.

Too strict in some areas, too lax in others.

In a national emergency I'm sure they had powers over supermarkets to order them to ration certain items.

Think what I've had/got is COVID, altered sense of smell which isn't just due to congestion - though it isn't like I lost it with the first time I had COVID. Also getting bouts of fatigue again though like before weirdly mostly go with just sitting down for 5-10 minutes.

Yeah I lost my sense of smell this time, or at least it’s a bit broken

Can smell the odd thing but it’s been fun winding my other half up saying she smells nice and waiting for the coin the drop

Her reaction is something like:

:D:):confused::mad::(

Hoping you recover fully.

I've had it twice and it has now opened me up to always getting chest infections if I am near someone already suffering and my lungs and throat always getting slammed first.

I'm really going to have to start wearing a mask again in public and when near those with infections because it does scare me what might happen if I get it again :(

Thanks, me too.

The first time I had it I didn’t even know. Did a test and was like oh lol what the hell. Did another and still positive. Next day still positive.

Next time I was ill but generally fine.

This time it was quite worrying, have really struggled to breathe at times, like I can’t get enough oxygen into my lungs. Joint and muscle pain was the worst though.

Even now, I’m free from cough/pain etc but get out of breath just standing up and sleeping so much. Generally an early riser but slept for 14 hours the other day

Join the club and I don't care how silly people think wearing a mask makes me look. Try to get FFP2 or FFP3 masks if you can from a reputable brand.

The surgical and particularly the cloth masks won't cut it.

Consider buying an oximeter to keep an eye on your oxygen levels and heart rate.

I think some smart watches can do a similar job.

I do have a Watch Ultra. Peak heart rate of 140 walking to the shops today which is probably a bit high - I’m not that unfit :P
Hmm it sounds like long covid.

The high rate will make you feel out of breath.

I'd make an appointment with your gp to get it checked out.

It can be a temporary symptom. But you need to be aware of it while it's around.

Communities had been holding services for those who died.

A sign of the times in my town that less than a week later the memorial ornament they placed as been smashed up.

Who damages memorial ornament!? Seriously, even if you don't believe in covid you just don't do that.

The Trump wrecking ball is destroying lives while proclaiming he's helping...

President Donald J. Trump’s administration this week abruptly terminated funding for a slew of studies designed to learn how to better treat the postviral condition long COVID. They include studies funded through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) initiative called Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery, or RECOVER, a $1.7 billion program that serves as the single largest federal funding mechanism for long COVID research.

A great interview with Amy Proal, one of the leading researchers in to covid and the post covid damage that can happen to some people.

Sad news, but predictable. Trump will say it's China's responsibiliy to pay for the victims of the pandemic and use it as an excuse to leverage further tariffs. Meanwhile the estimated 25 million Long COVID sufferers in the US will be left with reduced hope for a cure alongside the planned cuts to their social security payments.

No but I lost my sense of smell and taste went funny. I know that flu can do that, but not as common as Covid.

Still haven’t got my sense of smell back, it’s really weird, and still struggling with breathing and chest, but otherwise doing okay now.

It looks like the backlash against pulling funding for the RECOVER programme as caused the administration to reverse their decision.

It is very rare, outside of severe influenza cases, to have long lasting altered sensation and/or significant loss of sensitivity after congestion clears up with common respiratory diseases. Unlike COVID where it persists seemingly due to attacking the nerves.

I've not had it too bad this time - still got reduced sensitivity and the odd thing smells a bit weird but didn't totally lose it and the ~50% of things which all had the same odd smell for a few days has gone away just some of those things smell a bit weird compared to how they used to.

EDIT: The funny one, which I had last time as well, I can't smell body odour - which is a bit of a mixed blessing.

I had the first three jabs when it kicked off, about two months after the second jab I caught it. A bit relieved in a way as I wanted to know how my body would cope.

I’d had worse colds but I had an upset stomach with it lasting a good 4 weeks after testing negative. At the start of this year I got it for the second time, upset tummy again but only lasting two weeks.

I often wonder did the jabs help me in dealing with it or not. My sense of smell and taste were okay both times
