Cowboy Warning: Avoid DomainExpress like the plague.

lol, excellent, the people you were dealing with were total idiots to be honest! good to see you had a good result, and I can safely say I would sound as annoyed as you were if I was in your shoes.

EA support is shocking, I had to go through 5 different people on their online chat who told me what I wanted couldn't be done, before finally getting someone who was able to help me. I kept trying, persistence is the key in this game.

Ok, I read a couple of your logs and as you say you do seem like a "cheeky douche", however the support staff courteous and patient; pointing out their staff numbers and questioning the size of their office seems particularly crass. You clearly enjoy arguing and have too much free time otherwise you'd spend less time trolling their online support staff and leave it to Paypal.

To be honest if the op had searched for "icann domain transfer fee allowed" he would have found this FAQ within 10 seconds.

I'm waiting to see the chat log where he apologises for his mistake.

I think you are misunderstanding the OP.

He is not against the fee, he knows they can charge whatever fee they like.

BUT they refused to hand over the information (with held the information HE owned)

They should have handed over the information and THEN billed him for it.

Why you ask?

Well what if his domain was him selling whatever service, and with ought the domain transfer he looses "x" amount of money each day.

As in the link YOU provided, it says then can NOT refuse to hand it over.

It may be a bit petty, but the company was an ass about it

The op set about publicly damaging the reputation of a small business due to not reading their terms. His manner in doing so was incredibly arrogant and unwarranted.

He claims they changed their terms however here is a version from 2009 with the same disputed charge.

@Neodite

I cannot see anything of the company being an ass. To the contrary, the op has put himself across very badly.

This idea that a registrar must transfer in lieu of payment is ridiculous and you know it.

For example, you could write a contract saying that you have the right to stab the contractee in the face with a biro every time they blink, but even if they sign it you still can't stab them in the face.

That's a ridiculous argument. A stab in the face clause is clearly illegal and criminal - and wouldn't stand up in any court of law. It's clearly not the same thing as asking for a reasonable administration fee that both people have agreed to in the terms of the contract.

Maybe, but £10 does seem steep considering they're only forwarding an e-mail. Furthermore, they may not be breaking the law, but if they are breaking ICANN regulations then he can probably cause the company a resonable amount of bother.

I actually don't think it says what he thinks it says, but I only skimmed so I could be wrong.

P.S. Moral of the story, don't buy from random untrustworthy idiots. :D

They do have a right to charge however the fee should be separate to handing over the code.

The Registrar of Record must not refuse to release an "AuthInfo Code" to the Registered Name Holder solely because there is a dispute between the Registered Name Holder and the Registrar over payment.

I suspect this issue doesn't come up often as people will pay the fee within 5 days.

Section 5, Paragraph 4

The Registrar of Record must not refuse to release an "AuthInfo Code" to the Registered Name Holder solely because there is a dispute between the Registered Name Holder and the Registrar over payment.

As Beansprout pointed out, I'd agree with that line.

It seems to be the most relevant piece of information; especially when backed up with the other policies that outline the reason why an EPP code can be withheld.

Hi guys,

Paypal has ruled in my favour and has issued the refund.

Case closed money returned, I win :)

mwuhahahaha!

Given you still owe the company this charge, what have you won? Paypal always side with the purchaser, we all know and loathe them for that.

Frankly you've made yourself look really foolish in this whole debacle and your embarassing claim of having won shows this was nothing more than a game to you.
