CPR - It could save a life. With a difference.

Amusing, however chest compressions only have been shown to have a much greater success rate than mouth to mouth cpr and is the official recommendation of the AHA. ;)

For sure.

If you are going to do anything, it should be chest compressions. There is still oxygenation in the blood without breathing so if you prioritise anything it's compressions.

If you don't want to/think its safe to or you physically cannot give breaths, do not give up - do compressions and wait for the medics.

The tool we use for 999 calls (AMPDS) we instruct callers to do 100:2 (IIRC lol - been a whilse since I did calls) as Compressions are a hell of a lot more effective that RBs. (Also we can't really be sure how effective if at all a callers Compressions are)

As a CFR because I have access to Oxygen and a defib we do the traditional 30:2 this is done in combination with an Orapharangeal Airway and full Oxygen with a Valve and mask.

Ok, on a slight tangent, I'm trying to find a song I can sing that is naturally at 100bpm (to keep compressions regular) that isn't horrifically inappropriate if I do it to a MoP. Any suggestions?

I could always record my AED for you :p

Just out of interest, isn't it dangerous to attempt CPR if you're not not properly trained and qualified to do so?

Not really. You're going to crack ribs anyway, if you're in the situation where it's required, it's better to attempt it rather than do nothing at all.

Plus it is always said that if you've broken a rib chances are you've done decent CPR!

Indeed. I'd rather wake up with a couple of broken ribs than wake up dead. :p Awesome informative video OP. Is there a gynaecology training video or breast cancer check instructional? :D

Roll on June 1st!

I didn't know you applied enough force to crack ribs  Good thing I know that now. If I found myself in a situation where it was needed (hope I never do, that'd be horrible) I'd probably pussy out on applying 1.5-2 inch compressions if I heard cracks!

Cracking ribs is not the "goal" but high chance of it happening.

Especially in the old and frail. 1 *kkkch* 2 *kkkch* 3 *kkkch* 4 *kkkch* fi... ah sod this :D

It's certainly not something i'm looking forward to, I haven't had to do it on a real person yet.

isn't it 1 in 14,000 people actually survive having a heart attack and being brought back by CPR. ie to go home and live on rather than wake up in the hosp for 4 hours then die again.
