Just wondered if anyone uses temp probes for their cpu/chipset/graphics cards due to the motherboard's sensors being so inaccurate? If so where did you mount them, did you file some of the heatsink out? Has anyone got any pictures?

I used thermal probes on a few CPUs and my gfx card.

For the CPU (without an IHS), I stuck the probe right next to the core.

For the GPU, I just stuck the probe behind the GPU itself (on the back of the PCB).

I don't bother anymore, I just use software and take it with a pinch of salt. The only temps I monitor with probes are the air going through my rad and the water temperature.

Thanks for that, what about monitoring CPU temp with with an ihs? The problem is that my motherboard doesnt support chipset monitoring but I would like to know the temp when using a Zalman Passive cooler.

Really? That's unusual. What programs have you used?

I've tried the Epox software, MBM 5 doesnt support the board. Tried Speedfan and Everest, nothing seems to look like it, I doubt its 18 degrees or 26 degrees, maybe there just isnt one. Unless someone with an Epox 9NPA+ Ultra can show me where it is, theres a few little niggles with this board that I am disappointed with :(

Try using the Nvidia ntune monitor, its the only i have found to work with my Epox 9NPA+.

When I load it up I just get 'Your system does not have BIOS support to launch NVmonitor.exe' I am running the latest BIOS as well. Oh well, maybe I'll just have to hope that the chipset is not overheating, or try and get a probe in there.
