Had an old Q6850 extreme sitting on a "striker extreme" mobo ( yes ancient stuff) 4x 2gig Corsair DDR2 and a 560ti and to be honest at the res I work/play at it was fine with most stuff on medium settings.

Recently put in a SSD and the system was flying. Went to bed Friday night and woke up Sat and thought "Humm time for a bit of WOT" lets fire her up, Powered up and nothing "Sheet" I though, stripped the thing down (luckily enough its my job) give everything a good clean and put back together. Nope still dead.

Well I know the Striker Extreme were flaky at best and to be honest I've had 6 years out of it so I wasn't too miffed.

So time to work at getting this tested and working.

Things that were knackered:

Graphics card = Dead.
2 sticks of memory = Dead
Mobo =dead.

Holy crap I was thinking what the hell happened last night... anyway found an old HP workstation mobo fitted that and dropped in a spare 780ti and booted it up. Everything working saved myself 500 quid for a new cpu combo and still can play everything at ultra now instead of medium.

Strangely weird though as this little story is more of a testimony of a mobo I actually miss because buying it at the time was a big deal (lot of cash for me at the time) and it's been a solid reliable piece of kit which in the long run has saved me money.

ASUS Striker Extreme I shall miss you old friend and salute your reliability of being used nearly every day for over 6 years and not failing me once until unfortunately you gave up the ghost :-)

If only we all had a spare 780ti sitting around. I guess on the plus side you didn't have the 780ti in the ASUS at the time of death.

I bought it a few weeks ago (that offer that OC had) but I hadn't decided what to do with it until fate forced my hand.
