So currently running a 5950x with an EK Velocity block, love the block it's performance is great but unfortunately aesthetically the RGB LEDs really let it down.

RGB on it when set to white has quite a blue hue to it compared to the rest of the systems LEDs (I've even had a replacement set of LEDs from EK with the same problem) and I've even thought of manually resoldering new LEDs but finding replacements not as easy to source as these blocks use 3535 SMD LEDs unlike the common 5050 and maybe thats a reason for the colour issues but anyway couldn't find anything that I know would work

So unfortunately it looks like just for aesthetics I'm gonna change the block

So my questions to you all are, what block would you recommend and why? And have you personally owned the block and can confirm the LEDs are primarily white when set to white and not have the EK blue hue?

i understand your issue with the LED.. i too run a frosted Velocity block and whilst that has a blue-ish hue to it.. even adjusting it using aurasync etc makes no difference. Though hasn't bothered me to go that far and look for an alternate block.. since rgb doesn't affect performance.

Other than EK and Optimus blocks, i'd probably say Bitspower.. theres a few nice looking blocks out there but not had the chance to test them

Didn't even plug in the LEDs on my block
So can't recommend mine lol
But it's a common issue with a lot of RGB LEDs
Since they have red, green and blue diode
Which mix to form white
Sometimes they don't get the balance right
May even be caused by the material they are shining through?
Though would need to remove part of the block
To test that

The Alphacool Edge was quite nice. Great performance, but slightly more restrictive than the EK.
Running an all black, no lights air-cooled system now. :D

I run a bykski block without LED's. I just cut the wire.

TechN, aquacomputer, heatkiller all make blocks without RGB

Thanks for all the reply's guys

My build is white and primarily my RGB will be white too and as everything else is RGB and the whole thing lights up like a Christmas tree my block must have RGB and want it to match in

I already have an Alphacool GPU block and love the RGB on that so after having a look, think and reading your comments I may just go with the Alphacool and sell my Velocity block

It's a shame though as I do like the look of the Velocity, especially since changing the silver surround/bezel to the white one, it's a smart looking block but the RGB has ruined it for me :(

Thanks guys

What I've found with some LEDs not showing a good white was putting it in the very faint red/orange side. It always came out pretty neutral for me but it required a lot of tinkering in the colours as it varied from LED for each device.

Yeah you can tweak the RGB values
Though depends on your set up/how many led headers
If your block LEDs are on a splitter then tweaking those
Alters your other LEDs
If everything is on a separate led header
And your software allows it then yes you have a good suggestion there
Could play around with the 250,250,250 r,g,b values

Yeh tweaking's not an option for me as I have about 10/11 RGB devices on 2 headers so that wouldn't work with the way I've split them

So Rob here @ OCUK has sorted me out an Alphacool Edge block that will be here tomorrow so I'm pretty sure it will do the trick :D

The Alphacool Edge looks good, and it's a fairly heavy block. Feels premium.
Only changed mine back then because the 3090 really needed an active backplate.

Yeah. My OCD, even if playing the memory junction was close mid 80's, and I never bother mining, with the active backplate never crossed 60, if I remember well.
And as the whole system was fine, the baclkplate was the last temperature to tame. :D
IMO is fantastic for the 3090, but for the 3080 more aesthetic, as some thermalpad mod and reasonable airflow can keep the 3080 cool enough.
But on the other hand, loads more heat in the loop. Almost like another Mid-High End GPU temperature-wise :D
The only tip is to ensure the screw supplied are long enough. Thermalpad supplied was also enough. A top quality thermalpad may help shave another few Celsius, but not a deal breaker, TBH.

New block arrived and much happier with how it fits in the build, led colour is perfect

Only thing now is I need to redo all my pipework as not happy with it the way it is lol

It almost reminds me of the plastic prison Magneto was kept in. Quite funky the crystal clarity of it.
