CPU bottleneck my gpu?

Well finaly my ATI 4870 X2 kicked the bucket! BSODS and gfx errors full frontal assault...

I want to buy the Nvidia GTX 580 or wait for the 590 once that comes out but im worried that my CPU will bottleneck it.

CPU is I7920 at stock speed 2.66ghz i know i can overclock it but i want to know if its stilll fine without the overclock.

I would not be concerned by the bottleneck, you will still get a great increase in performance, and it will scale a little bit more when you are overclocked or have a much faster chip.

Also the 590 is a limited run of 1,000 only, and will cost itro /£850-£900, and thats silly money.
The CPU will go to 3.0 with very little effort and should be investigated With a lot of effort 4.0 is about what you could expect with a 1st class after market cooler.

i7 920 is still a fast chip. I wouldn't be concerned about the gpu bottle necking it

I think you will be fine, an i7 should not bottleneck any GPU at the moment.
