cpu burn in, tests and results

ran 8 hours burn on at 208x13, then turned it down to 204x13 and primed it, ran for 2 1/3minutes, which is the same as before so that burn in made know difference

moving onto 1.280 with 204x13 and see what happens


204x13 ran 1 hour plus so put it to 205x13 and lasted 37 minutes, gonna burn at 210x13 now and see what happens

This thread is well worth reading. In case you don't have time or refuse to read other forums, I'll highlight this paragraph:

"What usually happens is that the first couple of times/hours, nothing happens. Shortly there after there is a short phase which it will appear that your CPU is actually losing stability. THIS is the point where you want to push it the hardest. Once that subsides there is usually a small gain in speed which quickly gets larger, and larger, and larger."

I didn't really try burning in properly, but being a DCer, I do always have my system under full load. I believe I experienced a degree of burn-in as I had an Athlon XP that took 1.85V to run at max overclock. Two years later I started playing with it again and it was running fine at 1.775V.

The next time I build a machine, I will take the time to properly attempt burn-in. The other reason that I've not done that much in the way of burning in on all my other machines is that few of them have much in the way of voltage options - I use wire-in-socket type mods to boost the Vcore.

I don't think it can ever hurt to try this (well not any more than normal overclocking).
