CPU came without thermal paste?

I thought thermal paste was included with the CPU? My AMD PII 955 BE came today just opened to find no thermal paste. Does it come with another component or do you have to buy it separate?

Thanks

If it was an OEM CPU with no heatsink you would need to get your own thermal paste. If it was a boxed retail CPU with the stock heatsink, the heatsink should have some paste of some description pre-applied (Although it's often worth getting better paste anyway).

^ Beat me to it.

I've got the cooler and CPU, oh ok just i was reading the build guide and it said apply the paste, so the grey stuff on the underside of the cooler is the thermal paste?

Ok one more thing, just put the cooler on, its a kind of bolt action but only one side will clip in the other side just will not do it. Pics to explain:

If you can see it clips on one side but not the other, any ideas?

I am pushing loads and it just wont go down at all, its like a sea-saw design type thing, either side works on its own but neither together.

yup. shove it down, they're pretty tough.

iirc the horizontal metal 'arm' that the clips are part of is not attached to the cooler, you may find by moving it slightly in relation to the cooler allows you to get it on to the plastic tabs...

well, not too hard;)

try and pull up on the black clip whilst pushing on the cooler, rather than all the weight going through the motherboard.

You will have to give it even pressure from the middle, and you will be surprised by how much pressure u will have to give, its kinda scary some times.

What i normally do with that type, is push down on the centre of the heatsink, making both clips getting closer, then clip them, i find that easier then doing on at a time, but you will need to add quite abit of downward pressure onto the heatsink.
