Hey, ive got a X2 555 BLack Edition (Phenom II ofc)
Ive tried overclocking it to 3.5ghz from 3.2 and it was fine, I watched the temps and they were ok.
(Using AMD Overdrive)

Although when I reset my PC o just shut it down and run it next day the clock is back to 3.2

How can i tackle this ?

AMD Overdrive is overclocking via software. If you want to keep using the OC setting, I'm pretty sure you need to load up the software and activate the profile or set it up to turn on every time you load into windows.

If you feel confident with overclocking and the settings you have varied - I strongly advise you go into the BIOS and overclock through that. When overclocking in the BIOS everything is saved and the machine will load up running at the overclocked speed without having to turn anything on.

If you are getting the feel for overclocking, you might want to try getting those extra cores stable with a bit more voltage. There is much more extra performance to be had doing that, compared to overclocking.

Do you see the option for "CPU Over Voltage"? I'm pretty sure this is what other motherboards call Vcore. What options are you given for this variable?

Ok, I cant change it from auto. All I can do is Increase or Decrease.

Increment: 0.00625V
Standard: By CPU

Looking at CPUZ my standard is 1.248V

Btw, just a thought. Ive got AMD Cool and Quiet enabled. it restricts me fom using full CPU power (And voltage) untill underload.

Which would mean when I try to load into windows, my voltage would be lower than normal.

What if I disabled that, unlocked the cores, and see if it works ?

Sounds like a plan - disabling cool and quiet (at least in the short term - while you get your unlocking and overclocking sorted) should be no problem, just keep an eye on temps.

Make sure you only increase the vcore slowly. I would do a test run first to be safe :

Turn off coolnquiet, go back into windows and see what CPUz sees the vcore at with it turned off. Then with this noted go back into the bios, increase "CPU Over Voltage" by one increment and see what it registered as in CPUZ- that will 100% confirm that you are varying the correct setting.

From there, slowly increase the setting and try to boot into windows with cores unlocked and see if it works. When you get a voltage where you can load into windows - run OCCT and see if it is stable. If it isn't, increase the volts again and retest. Throughout all of this ensure that you don't go over 1.4V and 70 degrees C.

Best of luck :)

Aaaaand fail.

When I ncreased it once and tried to boot into windows to see stuff in cpuz, It wouldnt load into windows and just said CPU over voltage failed, reconfigue your system. So ive switched it back to normal.

I hope I didnt damage anything ?

Ah - shame. Unfortunately that board isn't really made with overclocking in mind and there isn't any overclocking guides out there for it. At least you tried.

If you have any issues - just reset the CMOS, i'm sure your system is fine.

You are probably best off trying the AMD overdrive again - i'm sure if you add it to startup you will be able to get the overclock loading up when windows starts.
