Please help me choose between these two coolers. I'll be using an i5 2500k cpu which won't be overclocked.

After reading loads of reviews for different coolers ( it's been a real pain)..i've narrowed it down to two. Namely:

1 Gelid Tranquillo

2 Noctua NH-U12P

The Gelid is cheaper so may be the better option for someone who is not overclocking, but then again the noctua does appeal because of so many positive reviews...even though it's more expensive.

I have a corsair 500r case so whether size would be an issue i don't know...i may make a card block from the noctua dimensions to see.

So what do you think? Quietness is very important to me, but obviously i'm willing to sacrifice total peace for a bit of intense gaming.

Thanks Guys

I can comment on the Noctua on a Phenom x4 955, very quiet, but bleedin huge!

I'd be inclined to go for the gelid and run the fan at 10v and get it quieter, the Noctua isnt worth the extra if im honest.

Hello folks,
I'm new here and this is my first post so be gentle (sigh).

I'm running an intel i5 sandybridge on an ASRock Z68 PRO 3 motherboard in a Coolermaster CM690 case with an intel stock CPU cooler with 8GB of Corsair vengeance RAM ,without overclocking (yet).

Guess what?

I'm having issues with heat in the CPU.

I spent the best part of the day yesterday reading the forums here and had a look at Noctua's,Antec Kuhler 620/920,the Gelid Tranquilo,Coolermaster 212 Hyper,Asaka,Phantek et al...

With my RAM standing at over 2 inches tall with the heat sinks attached and the RAM being located so close to the processor on the Z68 board I don't think I'm going to be able to fit the Noctua in so I'm leaning towards the Antec Kuhlers somewhat.
I'll be upgrading to 16GB's soon so moving the RAM is not an option at this point.

I'd really appreciate any input from anyone who runs a similar set-up to mine who's had the same issues and could guide me towards the right buying choice,I'd prefer to spend around £50/£60 if I can find a working solution for that money but I'm prepared to go higher if it's going to be a total game changer regarding my being able to overclock soon.

I'd like to go to 4ghz on the provided ASRock AXTU BIOS settings soon and I use the machine mostly for music production (and farting around with) which can get very CPU intensive at times and I've had a few crashes already because of it.
There's only onboard graphics to worry about too.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew

Yeah,I did.
Thought it would be easier than starting a new thread on an old subject and similar question being asked but there you go.

That's exactly the kit I'm tending towards ,that or a Corsair H60,precisely because of the RAM issue,I'm still concerned about noise though so my thinking says if I go to the 920 instead it should be quieter being a higher spec model but of course running 2 fans is going to make it louder than the 620,lol,it does your head in all this stuff.

Reckon I'll go for the 620,see how it performs and I can always add another fan in a push/pull later if it's required

You wont have any clearance issues in the 500r, not only is it deep set as it is the side pannels are boxed out giving an extra 25mm or so. Agree with Helios on the venomous x, if your budget allows get the phanteks cooler, best performer and not ugly as sin.

Noctua Noctua Noctua.

It just works perfectly. You really get what you pay for.

Installing it is easy, and comes with the best set of intructions for installing a back plate cooler ive ever seen.

Its silent, even on full speed and offers slightly worse (a few deg) performance than its bigger brother the NH-14 @£73.

It can handle high overclocks with ease 4.6+.

**I might be biased, and considering you arent going to overclock it may make more sense to go with the cheaper option.**

The NH-U12P is fairly outdated by modern standards. While it is perfectly adequate for high overclocks, the Venomous X is superior thanks to its 6 heat pipes as opposed to 4.
