- Ok so im running a Q9550 @ 3.2Ghz (400x8) with RAM at 1066mhz stock.

Now idle temps sit around 47 to 51*C on the 4 cores.
Crysis plays fine and temps only go up a little ..to say 60*C.

But running Prime 95 will put cores to 75*C in just a few minutes then mobo starts clicking like mad.

Running on stock cooler.

Now with my old S939 i was using a Gigabyte copper block cooler. It was amazing at cooling but my god it was loud. I want something quite silent.

So i want to put the CPU to 3.4Gz & run prime95 without the temps going nuts.
Then i can go hardcore and start messing with my Lan Party X48 settings.

mines got a true on it, with 2 x 120mm in push pull, temps good on 3.46

TRUE 120, best cooler on the market, the noctua is a very good cooler but if you want to go to extreme speeds the TRUE is the best, especially when you stick two decent fans on it in a push pull configuration.

Ah, ok i have a arctic pro 7 and i have 2 fans on that but i've got them both blowing inwards.

Might try that method then and see if it does anything on my Q9550 ( running at 3.2GHz)

Thanks

I've opted for a Noctua myself because of the build quality. I'm buggered if I'm going to mess about lapping a cooler. I want the thing to work like a charm straight out of the box.

Not sure when I'll be getting it, my Mum owes me a few quid and has ordered my bits and pieces for my new machine but apparently OCUK don't deliver to a different address to the card holder when it's over a hundred quid or so. It's getting delivered to my Mum's place on Monday and she'll drive up to deliver it all as soon as my sister-in-law drops her sprog (latest it'll be is 23rd this month when they'll induce the little bugger, it's overdue!!!). :(

*Keeps fingers crossed that the waters break as soon as City Link knock on my Mum's door*

:D

i got the same drop by adding another fan to my TRUE 6-8 degreesa and there only 1400 fans could prberly get another 8-10 by uppping them both to 2000s

That's not a bad return, certainly worth another 120mm fan...
The fans im currently using are 1500rpm arctic cooling pwm controlled fans, both daisy chained and powered by the 4 pin cpu header. Gonna replace them with a pair of sharkoon silent eagle 2000 rpm's when i can spare the cash.

Noctua fans certainly aint the prettyest, but what they lack in looks they certainly make up for it in cooling ability.:D

Another vote for the Noctua.

TRUE's good, but you WILL need to lap it and do something about the mounting to get the best out of it.

The Noctua on the other hand is perfect right out the box, excellent mounting system and very flat/shiny base.
