i have a Quad core processor which is running at a very high temp. I think my current CPU cooler may be faulty, and am looking for a replacement.

ideally i would like one that does not have the push pin connection as i dont really like these, can anyone please recommend me a decent cooler that fastens by screws?

thanks

Hi
firstly have you tried reseating the cooler? And maybe re-applying TIM? If not you should try this first
If you do want a new cooler, what sort of budget are you looking at?

yep, have tried reseating it, cleaning it etc. but it still isnt helping
the desktop will shut down after a few minutes use, and i think it because of the temp, it seems to be very high on startup

budget of around £30 if possible, although may be able to increase

temps checked with BIOs and speedfan, and are around 83-85C pretty much after a few minutes or so of starting, and not doing anything

Temps are way high, there is a bigger issue than needing an aftermarket cooler as your stock cooler should be doing better than that unless it has stopped working! have you overclocked the cpu?

no not overclocked or modified in any way
i think the heatsink is not making a good enough connection, the push pins keep popping out no matter how many times i relocate and fit them

May be a problem in how you're inserting the push pins. Have you checked it's exactly as the manual states?

yes, read and reread, its definetly being fitted correctly, it just doesnt seem to be making a very good contact

if i fit the standard heatsink it is fine and makes a good solid fit comapared to the coolermaster hyper TX

It's just that you're saying the pins keep popping out and that only happened to me when I installed my intel cooler, removed it and forgot to turn them 90 degrees to reset them.

pins pop out when fitted correctly and even when they are in fully i dont think the heatsink is making a good enough contact, thats why the CPU is becoming very hot

im looking for another cooler anyway, so even if they are damaged it doesnt matter.

anyone else know of any screw fit coolers?

thanks guys, im now torn between the Titan Fenrir and the Thermolab Barum, what are these like in comparison to fit?

are they easy to fit. anyone got any pics?
thanks

also does anyone know if there is a discount code for OCUK, I would like to order it from them especially since it was on their forums that it was recommended to me, however postage is about £9 for just the heatsink

i did see that, thanks

i think i will go for the titan fenrir, just need to find where to get it now for the best price. OCUK does have it on offer although i have still found it for the same price elsewhere

dont think im entitled to the forum discount for free shipping yet, not sure
would be nice as postage is pretty expensive
