cpu cooler

hi, I am thinking of buying the Xigmatek S1283-Dark Knight cpu cooler but on the box (the one I saw at my local shop) it says that it fits up to socket AM2. Does it still fit AM3 socket or the cooler bracket is totally different and won't fit?

They fit different processors. But the size is similar meaning the same coolers can be fitted.

As said above. The bracket for attaching heat sinks is exactly the same, same fitting and same screw holes. The processor socket, however, is different, with either AM2 or AM3 having more or less pins... I can't remember which way round it is.

just wondering would a cooler fit the same way on a am3 board the same way it fits on am2 board?
i.e cooler facing up/side

hopefully cos I still want the fan to blow up. But it seems so cos the clips on the motherboard seem to have the same orientation
