I want to know the best value CPU cooler for under £40 that has pre-applied thermal paste for the 3570k. I just don't want to mess it up myself :(

As far as im aware, all the good coolers will need the paste applying yourself. Its not hard to do yourself.

It's hard to mess it up, you can always buy a sheet of thermal compound to make it easier.

The Corsair water cooling systems used to come with pre applied thermal material. Unsure if they still do you could look around. They look like the easiest installations because they dont have a heatsink in the way. :)

Also thermal pastes are often non conductive all you need to do is make sure a thin layer is allowing proper contact between the two surfaces.

For most applications you only need to apply a small blob and the heatsink will spread the compound for you.

I did my first ever build a short while back....and I also wasnt sure myself about applying thermal paste...but, after watching a few youtube videos on the subject i ended up using a " cut-off" finger from a surgical glove , and used the smooth side of it!! i just put the paste on the middle of the top of the CPU and then slowly just spread it out evenly, it was so easy :)

Happy applying :)

I can only say that it seems to keen things nice and cool...i slung one in the wife's pc too,

but as i said only done my first build....so its hard to compare with other coolers as its the only after market one ive used ..soz

I had a similar cooler to that, the Akasa 965. Brilliant for the price, but I do not recommend for a quad, my overclocked dual core e5200 caused that thing to get very loud and hot. Your cpu has TDP of 77W and I think the max cooling power of the Freezer 7 is 130w, which you would possibly reach on load and might be pushing it a bit.

I would recommend spending £30 or so if you appreciate silence to get a quiet one. If you are going to overclock, go for the full £40.

What case do you have? Some will limit the height of heatsink, can't recommend without knowing what case.

Above suggestion looks better, I would spend more to get a quieter one myself. Heatsinks like that install easier than stock cooler.
