What do you guys think on this.

My mate has just placed an order (with OcUk of-course) for a new rig, when I sent him the spec I forgot to add a decent CPU cooler, I always replace the stock cooler with a good quality one and chuck to supplied one.

Now he will never be overclocking the rig or running anything too heavy on it, it will mainly be used for surfing, the kids home work and the odd game, saying that they do tend to leave the PC running day and night. Do you think the stock cooler will be up-to the job, I suppose it should be OK for the job if it was speced by Intel?

My usual advice on this is if you're not overclocking and unsure if you need a 3rd party cooler, then try the one that comes with it before you decide. You can always change it later if you find it gets too hot or too noisy.

PK!

The retail cooler will be fine. However the fan on it might be noisy.

Thanks for that, I don't think noise from the PC will be the problem, with 3 young ones and a couple of dogs you can't hear youself think most of the time in his house :D

that is correct i suppose. standard coolers are crap, iam sure others will agree.

Well I expect 99% of people of who use a PC use a stock cooler.
You always pay more to keep it silent.

A Thermalright Ultima-90i (which isn't such a huge chunck) and a Arctic Cooling Arctic Fan 9225PWM works fine for me, but it costs!

Why would anyone agree. A stock cooler will run a pc fine 24/7 as long as you don't over clock to far. It all depends what noise level you want. But temp wise there is nothing wrong with stock coolers.
