Hi all can some one link me to a picture showing the locations of

core

0
1
2
3

in a Q6700

I am getting 10c diff between cores

0-35c
1-35c
2-27c
3-27

I had this problem since I had CPU I lapped last night and still no diff its 10c out :(

I have a titan fenrir BTW the first one.

Please advise.

nah it really was mate like I said it was like this befor the lap thats why I lapped.

I am thinking its the titan fenrir.

I want to know where the cores are placed in the cpu I can tighten the heatsink nuts a little on one side I think the CPU heatsink face is not flat so even though I have tightned screws equally tight the face is throwing it out.

So I need to know where the cores are in the cpu to know whice side to tighten a little more.

rnning prime 95 64bit i get

cores

0-45c
1-45
2-35
3-35

Such a shame I want to get cores 0 and 1 to 35c then I can start overclocking this beast :)

thanks so much for link.

All so my mates q6600 had this error he lapped and got em to 1c :(.

I will see if I can get the cores closer by tightening one side will report back

just put a flat edge on the heatsink and wow what a load of crap.

I gave it a little sanding but tbh I read its not a good idea lapping direct contact H/S as you could go through the pipes.

Oh well I wont purchase a direct contact H/S again.

They got good reviews to these H/S though a review on OCUK did mention there is gaps between the pipes I filled them in first its just that the bottom aint even flat some of the pipes are higher making no contact to some of the other pipes mainly where the cores are.

Yeah well tbh me lapping the CPU was a waste of time but meh at least its done now so if I get a new heatsink etc it may be better.

I want to upgrade but money is tight so wont be for a while.

I may see if I have an old intel heatsink I dont expect lower temps but at least I could see if the temps are closer.

I have been running prime for 30 mins and coes 0 and 1 are 48c cores 2 and 3 are 44 so it seems under load the cores become a little closer.

I have been eyeing up this bundle and I really want it I think it will be a huge upgrade for me

I dont know if its worth overclocking my Q6700 now as the temps are not to even? and load temps are 50c would an OC be a good idea? and if so what could one expect from a Q6700?.

Thanks

really so if I overclock it what can I get out of this and whats a safe temp for these things to run at?.

All so I have just rebuilt it so I am expecting the temps to drop a few C when its settled down a bit :)

I really think in this situation though its the heatsink its all over the place.

My mate had same issue with his q6600 10c diff and he lapped his and was like within 1c :(.

I will test with a diff heatsink just to see if the cores do close up on temps.

Any way once I am happy and I have some time im going to overclock this sucker but I have x4 1gb sticks so this wont help as it will put extra stress on the north bridge we will see LOL

yeah is the q6700 just as good as the q6600 for overclocking mine is a 0 stepping or what ever its called.

I got mine from OCUK many many years ago and back then if I remember right it said in the description it was the unlocked version.

Oh really 70c is deemed acceptable?

I suppose most games wont heat this thing up as prime really does use all 4 cores at 100% where as games may only pushthis thing past %100 o one core.

Good to know thanks :)
