Having installed my nzxt x40 today my pc fails to boot. It turns on but no display and the asrock dr code thingy shows a code of 00 which indicates the cpu isnt installed correctly and to reset the bios.

I've reinstalled the old heatsink and it's still the same, the NZXT was a pain in the ass for the rear mobo support bracket. I had to cut it in two to get it to line up, ive seen some say it doesnt matter if it doesnt line up but i just couldnt get it to line up and make sure the screws went in straight otherwise it would have cross threaded on the rear support bracket due to it being out of line.

my 2500K was a retail boxed chip and was wondering how i go about sorting this out? intel or retailer?

If I have to swap mobo and chip what would people suggest.

whats the latest chipset? mine is a extreme 4 gen 3 asrock mobo

any help appreciated

I will be surprised that your cpu has failed, have you tried a CMOS reset and everything is in its place on the power connection side.

Yep all the connections checked.

Ive tried the onboard vga instead of my 780 card and the same happens.

Reset cmos with the clr jumper, clear cmos button aswell as taking the battery out.

What would you say it was if not cpu? Mobo?

Cheers

Its a pain as i dont have a test system to test the cpu on another system and i dont know anyone close with a similar system to try it out

done a close/carefull inspection of the cpu socket for any bent pins? loosened the cpu heatsink slightly?

ive just shone my phone light over the board and when looking at an angle from the right side looking in the case. Down across some pins the light catches them in a way that makes a few look bent. If I look straight down they look straight.

Any ideas? if the light catches the pins and some look different and bent downwards then I would be right in saying they maybe bent even if looking down on them they appear straight?

if the above doesnt make sense let me know lol

Take a pic close up of the whole socket/pins,if the look aligned looking from the top then they are ok,but try to get some pics up,the more eyes the better

im in frenchay but willing to come to weston to try and see if this can be checked if its no bother to yourself.

trust me your details if you can.

I appreciate the assistance.

thanks

Gavin

I know you've checked all the connections but don't suppose there's still a chance you've missed the 4 or 8 pin power connection near the cpu socket? Tho can't personally say how far the mobo would get without it plugged in.

Ah oh ok...glad it's all sorted....Sometimes it can be the simplest of things that have been missed but bent pins & dead board was gonna be my next suggestion. Hope ya didn't mind me letting you get there first :)

(ooh just noticed he's another exiled scouse git like me good self ;) )
