This problem doesn't need solving as such as I'm building a new rig soon so I'm not too worried, just curious.

Recently when I have been booting my machine I have been getting a CPU fan error message now and again. However the cooler fan is running as are all the fans on my machine so not sure why I'm getting the error.

Funnily enough (or not) my idle CPU temps are up 8-10 degrees C. It normally idles at between about 28-30 and now I'm getting 40C in realtemp and 45C in core temp (not sure which is most reliable).

Any suggestions?

Yeah, I gave it a clean a couple of weeks ago when I installed my 6950.

I'm probably going give this pc to a friend when I get my new one anyway (minus the GPU) so will try the fan splitter then. If not he'll have to live with it, it is free after all!

Ah, so you also recently installed a new GPU. I would try out your old GPU and check your CPU temps. Sounds like it could be heat rising from the 6950!

I don't think so. Iit was idling at 30 a few days ago even with the new GPU. Plus my old GPU was a 4870x2 which was a heat monster (idled at 72C) so if anything I would have thought temps may drop a degree or 2?! :)
