I was woundering if it was possible to put a speed fan reduction cable onto the cpu fan or if it would screw up the fan speed and temperature control becuase when my computer idles it makes to much noise. it doesnt actualy bother me when im using it ie music films on etc. the cable is the akasa 1.

thanks for any help

Asus probe just sets the thresholds not the voltages AFAIK?

You need to fit a regulator switch.. There are plenty of fan monitors you can buy that alter the speed of the fans inside:

Akasa AK FC-03 Fan Controller Pro (OA-002-AK)

Price: £24.95 (£29.32 Including VAT at 17.5%)

or the simple

Akasa AK FC-06BK Fan Controller Junior - Black (FG-021-AK

Price: £7.50 (£8.81 Including VAT at 17.5%)

yeah i know but will they work fine with the cpu fan!! thats the issue i dont want to brake it or cause overheating etc

What heatsink/fan are you using at the moment? Most motherboards these days have settings in the BIOS that allows you to set fan speed reduction, so that the fan only goes full speed when the temp goes up. It's probably a far better idea to do that than use a cable, which will permenantly reduce fan speeds.

all standard stuff and i turn on cool and quiet and makes little difference and dont have money to get a different cooler atm

Use a Fanmate 2

Hi

I use the ASUS BIOS setting to reduce the CPU fan speed.

Then fine tune by using a Fanmate 2 to connect to the motherboard.

Hope this helps.
