I know it must have been asked a load of times. You folks are probably fed up answering it. Sorry. But I've googled and searched. Couldn't come up with a definitive answer.

CPU fans. Is push/pull much of an advantage over push?

Is it worth doing? Are noise levels affected? I'm guessing 2 fans at lower speeds in push/pull may have different noise level to 1 fan at higher speed pushing.

Well for it's worth, I had a hyper 212+ with a single stock fan and then push/pull akasa vipers and to be honest the only time the I notice the noise levels is when running prime95 or IBT. just changed to a venomous x and it's the same, no real difference noise wise in the 2, but anything upto 10c cooler when stressing the CPU, idle is much the same

Yes, it helps the air flow through the heatsink or rad fins + and helps moves any dead air on that side, as for temps about 2'c to 3'c drop in temps, depending what fans you use.

I had a H50 with a push/pull set up, core temps on my 920-4.2GHz in normal use gaming, etc, cores never went over 70'c. :)

Thank you Thekwango and OLDPHART. I'll order another fan and a cpu splitter.

Is it better to have two of the same type fans?

At the moment I have 1 12cm Venom fan pushing and 1 12cm Apache fan extracting from the case. I was thinking of using these in push/pull and buying a 14cm fan for case extraction.

Yes, if they are both PWM fans using a PWM splitter cable, they must be the same make + model or they will just spin at full speed ie- x2 Vipers. Or you can use your Venon on the CPU header and the Apache on another even at full speed the Apaches are quiet.

+1 for the akasa pwm splitter, fantastic little cable. Ive used it for a few years now with various pwm fans.

Another vote for the akasa pwm splitter. I've currently got three Apaches running off one and it's probably the best few quid I've spent on the computer. Do note however that as it comes, it is not a tidy cable. I just spent a while taping all the wires up into appropriate groups but due to the way Akasa have wired it it's a real mess. When I have time I'll braid the cables into groups and re-wire the plugs to get rid of the tangles.

it may look like this in the product image....

but 30 seconds after opening it WILL look like this....

:p:p

all joking aside tho, it is a great little cable. I have this same cable running both my vipers, and as I previously said i don't notice them unless I'm running prime or IBT

I have the same splitter cable running 3 vipers, 2 in push/pull on the venom cooler and one as exhaust and I don't notice them unless I'm running prime or IBT either.

FYI: I did have an apache and the stock ALC eco fan (1850rpm) on the akasa PWM splitter and it ran both fans fine from the splitter. Both idle around 700rpm full load the apache hit 1350 odd and the alc fan hit 1600-1800rpm.

But yes another +1 for the push pull.

On my ALC ECO I have it drawing cold air from the rear fan port which then gets sucked out the top!
