Its been a long time since i've built anything, mainly due to circumstances, but things have changed now and im looking at building a computer purely for gaming using a 780 [i dont really play games that would be worth using anything more than a single GPU on - wow, a few other mmo's, UT, BF3, FM etc]. The main query i have is around the cpu - and what to go for - some people say an i5 4670 and others a i7 4770. Opinion seems divided on this just talking to friends etc and even reading thru this forum has'nt convinced me either way [the last computer i had used a i5 2500 which i loved].

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

BF4 utilizes the threads on i7 4770 and future games appear to be heading in that direction. I was in the same situation as you recently and ended up going down the i5 4570k and overclocked it.

I came to the conclusion that it will be another while untill games start utilizing more 8 cores etc and when that time comes ill upgrade.

It all comes down to budget and how much you are prepared to pay. I was on a strict budget so chose the i5. VERY happy with it so far.

I'm sure other members will help you out too!

I was running a i3 3220 with a 7790 for around 4 months. I felt the need to upgrade so I went for a i5 3570K and I love it. It has doubled my FPS in CS GO! I am running 4.2Ghz on the stock cooler also.

If you are gaming and it sounds like thats your main reason for this rig build, get an i5! No need for an i7 imo, spend the extra money saved on the GPU.

i3 was good for a while but the i5 blows it out of the water!

Edit: However don't get me wrong, if you have the money go for an i7. Also make sure you get a K chip i5/i7 so you can overclock.

I don't really understand the logic in this question if money isn't an obstacle.

If it isn't, just get the 4770 and you're covered either way..

If your not on a budget go with a 4770K for all the bells an whistles if you do a lot of other stuff as well as gaming.

If your on a budget and want it for gaming mainly then go AMD.

No brainer really :\

Or if you've still got that 2500K overclock that little beauty i had mine @4.6 on air great chips if i hadn't of managed to upgrade to my current rig for the price of a £10 i wouldn't of jumped ship.

If you want to play WOW, definetly go intel. I went from a fx6300-4670k and noticed an improvement in FPS (7970@1100 core)

Amazing hey, although I've never seen them quite that expensive, I think it was £156 when I got it.

There is not a lot of difference @ 1080P between the i5 or i7 as far as gaming goes, FPS difference if any is not worth bragging about

If money is not a problem then i would get the i7, but if you want to save a few quid then you do just as well with the 4760K
