CPU for BF4

Even the fastest systems will feel a bit sluggish on a hard drive. It can make a huge difference if a game accesses the disk a lot during play, especially open world games that will be loading maps and textures regularly.
 
Give you an idea, i downloaded BF4 and it was set to goto my Mechanical drive, played a few matches and i would always be last to spawn at the start, moved it to my SSD and im one of the first to spawn on map rotation now.
 
Another vote for the amd. I run on a similar system to ur current one and I have to say my next upgrade will be a ssd. With the size of these games today that extra speed makes a difference

All comes down to your budget and what you're willing to spend for performance.

I still think the people who got the best deal are those on launch day 1155 systems (Well, with the B3 boards) on 2500k's and 2600k's overclocked.

Yep still got the z68xp ud3 and my 2600k at 4.5. Ivy or haswell doesn't even tempt me in the slightest. People moan about amd's development, as a long user of 1155 I think I can moan about intel's. Anyway as people suggested 8320 or a 4770, but get a good cooler and case and psu for the amd.

For your budget your suggestions look great.
If you can find a bit more coin than a 4670k is likely faster in most games at a lower overall energy cost (probably wont overclock much above 4.5Ghz if that is what you prefer). Otherwise it looks good IMO.
 
An i5 or a 8350 or better yet (price wise) an 8320 would be amazing.

Is the nail right on the head in my opinion, that build will suffice easily for battlefield even without an overclock. The rest will be dependant on your gpu which in 760's case will do the job :)
 
Unless you really want to spend then intel really is not worth it certainly in most gaming situations of course the i7 is still the top cpu but the performance from amd is amazing for the money.
 
i would have thought you would have got reasonable frame rates with the setup even on windows 7. wait and see how it runs before pre spending your cash on an os
 
Have I missed something? People have really changed their opinion regarding AMD cpu's and gaming.

What has changed? Just becuse BF4 levels the playing field somewhat, doesnt mean much. It's only a single game at the end of the day.

Well it's always been looked down on ridiculously but I think people are realising now that its not as bad as it's made out when playing games or doing anything else. The difference between the two cpu giants isn't that big that you'll see a big 5-10 seconds or more difference (just a random number to emphasise my point)

In reality where you choose intel or amd and have a overall well built system then you will not be disappointed :)

Intels prices are quite high, and so you've got a lot of people buying FX83's etc.
And since the Intel CPU's are locked, it's only the 4670K and 4770K that are worth considering (With the Xeon 4c 8t) but the AMD stuff all come in cheaper.
I mean seriously, who in their right mind's going to be buying i3's when you can get FX6300's cheaper?
And then you've got AMD making a lot of noise (And in the consoles)

It's like the Phenom II's, except we weren't quite so ignorant when we bought AMD.

It's not AMD thats optimized for BF4, it's Win 8.1... or rather the other way round. BF4 is optimised for Win 8.1.

Any percieved AMD optimisations steam from Win 8.1 which extend to Intel and Nvidia too.

And just for the record my 3570k is tearing this game a new one...
 
i would stick another 120mm fan on the other side of that cooler and run them in push and pull configuration :p thats what i do with my 8350 and aegir works nicely, doesnt matter if the other fan isnt pwm just run it off say a molex and it will run full speed all the time and the connect the other one as normal to the fan socket on the mobo :D

as for bf4, with the amd cpu's x8 you really need to '' unpark '' your cpu cores as then the game will fully use all 8 cores and will run smooth with no lag spikes (i dont know if you need to with intel) , i was running the game with parked cores and the game was sticking etc. now i have unparked and the game has drastically improved my fps!
there are plenty of guides on how to unpark and videos on youtube showing you

enjoy bf4, its awesomeeeee :D

edit. i am running windows 7 64bit!!!!! dont need windows 8.1 :p
