So i have a Phenom II x4 850 3.3hgz.
and a 2gb 6950.

I think the graphics card is fine to play most things on ultra, but my CPu is letting it down big time.

Im so confused as to what is best.
Phenom x6? Bulldozer? i5 2500k? i7?
So much choice, please help.

for gaming 3570K is best, for programs that utilise threads its i7 route 3770K+... You could also get Intel Xeon 1230v2 but it isnt on ocUK.. it has 8 threads cost similair to 3570K but cant overclock and doesnt have igpu.

What is the AMD equivilant to the 3770? I just found out my Mobo only does AMd CPU's

oh thats very bad :(

But they do exist

no desktop-AMD cpu are as good as 3770K... You can try "AMD Opteron 6274"

The main issue is that you have a CPU without L3 cache, which affects gaming performance too. Is your motherboard AM3+ or AM3??

If it is AM3+ the FX8350 is being launched next week,at around £150. It should be around Core i7 2600K level for multi-threaded benchmarks, but not as a good for games based on more lightly threaded engines as a Core i5 3570K.

Echoing what Cat says.

At this very moment in time being so close to Vishera, doing anything is a mistake.
Not that I think Vishera will be massively good, but depends what prices are tbh.

For heavy CPU type things if speed is important you should consider an i7 3930k on an X79 motherboard. Its a bit expensive but will save you a lot of time.

I have this setup and I agree. It really is the best option if you need to do a lot of CPU heavy activities.
