Hi guys, looking to build a video editing pc. Got a budget of about £5-600. Just wondering what cpus are best for video editing arond the £120 range? I noticed an earlier thread someone suggested an amd chip with 6 cores for a HD video editing build, are these beyter than i7's at the same price for vid editing?

i7 Would be better, but the price of the CPU would take 1/3 of your budget if not heading into 1/2 depending on which one you go for. The hex-core i7 is £450 alone.

With your budget, this should be a sound choice.

thanks for the options snips. Would require an OS, and it wouldnt be used for games. Just wondering, how much difference in performance would the i7 be against the AMD? Is it a significant difference?

As above, the i7 uses hyperthreading (4 cores, 2 threads per core=8 threads) which is quick, providing the application you are using supports it. Depends how serious your video editing is!

Might be worth looking at the i5k as it's a fantastic all rounder with great gaming capabilities (if needed) as well using QuickSync for encoding. Obviously it's not as fast as the i7, but if you feel the need to upgrade later, sell the i5k & get the i7.

Thanks again guys. Been looking at your overclocked bundles, they are looking fast when overclocked.

Just wondering what i5 setup you have in mind? Could I straight swap the i5 for the i7 if I was to upgrade it?
