Cpu getting hot

Q9650 @3.6 ghz been like this for 18ths but I have purchased red orchestra 2 and this game is getting me up to 83c!!!! Nothing else does this but anyway how do i get temps down and is it dangerous.

that is quiet hot. either give your computer a clean,get more fans,buy a better cooler or down clock

Something like this should keep it nice and cool, it should fit your socket and it gets decent reviews and is very quiet

i dont know id that one will fit your socket man, plus there are better coolers out there like the silver arrow or d14

+1 for the silver arrow if you have low profile ram. Also, as j.col mentions, is your current cooler clean, and is airflow good. 83c on a cpu such as the 9650, (much cooler running than 65nm quads) sounds very high, are you using auto cpu volts for the 3.6 ghz oc?

will strip it down tomorrow and reseat with fresh compound and clean it out .

put it onto water cooling drop the temps no problem

you should see a good drop in temps, as you said, you haven't cleared it out in ages

give the cooler and case a good clean every 6 months.
a toothbrush is good for fans, and a 1" paintbrush for every where else, then use the hoover, but dont touch anything with the hoover

New arctic silver and a blow out I ended up putting artic cooler back rotated my 90 degrees it was a pain in the butt getting back on due to lack of space and my fat hands but idle temps are 33c rather than 38c and I lowered vcore down a notch now to test it properly

edit:

that fixed it max temps tonight 63c a full 24c lower under full load
