CPU/GPU bottleneck

I'm not sure whether to post this here or in the laptops forum, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me if a i5-3210m processor would bottleneck a ATI 7970m gpu? Would it perform better or worse than an i7 with a weaker gpu like a GTX 670m/675m?

I know it would vary from game to game, but in general would it be silly to buy a dual core processor these days in terms of future proofing, etc? I'm trying to keep the price down.

I read the other day the general consensus is that most games use more than two cores these days.

Depends what i5/i7 it is.
As I've seen some mobile i7's be nothing more than glorified i3's, which is what the i5's tend to be.

How do you glorify an i3? It has 2 cores, whereas an i5 has 4, as does an i7 (plus hyperthreading giving 8).
