Hello all, I have read many topics in this forum and around the net explaining to get just the right amount of paste added when fitting a CPU or GPU cooler.

My question is.... why is it really so important as when the pressure of the heatsink and cpu or gpu come face to face under pressure surely the excess paste gets squeezed out anyway:confused:

Cheers

Depends on the cooler. Direct contact heat pipe coolers often have grooves next to the pipes which paste gets into. They tend to need more paste.

Also you dont want paste getting pushed out the edge. Some is conductive and can ruin the motherboard.

Good luck spreading arctic cooling mx3 luckily it's non conductive so just put a grain of rice in middle or line method if quad and mount heatsink.
Arctic silver is far easier to spread and personally I just spread it on total surface thin layer.

As above and then check your temps
