Hi guys,

At first I thought this was a graphics issue but not so sure, I bought Far Cry 3 earlier and installed it, I noticed at first the game was performing quite badly, very juddery and after the opening scene the opening credits come up and then the Far Cry 3 title, in this scene my PC took about 5 minutes to load that title, it was just completely lagging out, I imagine the FPS was around 2/3. It eventually finished and I could play the game again.

I had 3DMark06 on my PC so tested that out and it ran fine until it got to the Red Valley section where the PC again just completely struggled to run, it was getting around 2FPS, the end score for 3dmark06 was this:

GT1 - Return To Proxycon 55.97 FPS
GT2 - Firefly Forest55.98 FPS
CPU1 - Red Valley 1.63 FPS
CPU2 - Red Valley 2.25 FPS

HDR1 - Canyon Flight115.25 FPS
HDR2 - Deep Freeze70.94 FPS

I had Very High settings on Far Cry 3 and it was not very smooth at all.

My specs are: i7 920, P6X58D, 12gb RAM and 7870.

Any ideas?

Have not use 3DMark06 for a while, but in Red Vally, 2 or 3 FPS looks normal, it really is that slow with a healthy CPU.
I very much doubt there is anything wrong with that CPU.

Far Cry 3 is a buggy game but it does run ok.

The only thing that i can think of why the Game should start so slow and judder is that Windows is putting a lot of load on to the HDD, page filing the game or something like that, but with 12GB RAM that does not seem likely.

Have you run it a few times since then? does it do it every time you start the game?

Cheers for the response. I think it's just Far Cry now actually, I played around with BF and also Sleeping Dogs runs fine on everything on the best settings so I guess FC is just too much for my PC!

I have played Far Cry 3 (Asus Sabertooth 990FX - Phenom II x6 @ 4.1Ghz - Gigabyte 7870 @ 1200 / 1500 - 8GB Corseair 1600Mhz) at very high or maxed setting and it plays fine, its not great with frame rates sometimes dipping to the mid 40's at maxed settings, but perfectly playable.

You might do well moving this thread to the GPU section of the forum, there is a much better chance some one in there has an answer. :)

I ran farcry3 on my current system (signature) all ultra and it went down to 37-42 while driving through jungle and such and around 50-70 everything else. It's a really demanding game lol maybe your components just arent up to par for ultra? Try on high, will still look amazing.

Yeah it's stock. Judging from responses I should be able to play in this state mind, I may try oc it to see if there's a big difference.

I tried it before but I had occasional crashes on my PC so I just reverted to stock. Been so long doubt I can remember how!
