Hey everyone, i am looking for some suggestions for an upgrade i will be doing this coming week. Let me first explain that i am very out of touch with the hardware world of the last few years, hence the need for some good advice!

Here is my current system just for laughs :/

AMD A64 3200+
Asus A8V MB
1 GB Crucial DDR
128 mb 9800 PRO

Now first things first, i am not a hardcore gamer and i don't mind playing games without all the bells and whistles, so i have decided i'll probably get a 8600GT for the gfx card. Performance is not great i realise, but the price is good and it should be a noticable upgrade on my 9800PRO.

As for CPU/MB/RAM i am a little confused. I have around £300 to spend on these 3 items, here is what i have come up with so far:

Does that look like an ok mid-range setup, or are there any better setups people could suggest for around the same price?

TIA for any help!

That looks fine, the Ram might be slightly overkill if you aren't overclocking but it is still a good price so no obvious changes to suggest. Do you already have a good PSU?

I have a Seasonic PSU, i'll have to double check the rating, but i think it's 460w *just used an online power supply calculator and it reckons the rig will use 331w full load at stock settings, so i guess i will be ok with my current PSU*

About the ram, i was under the impression that i would need to buy 1066mhz DDR2 to get the full rated speed from a 1333FSB Intel chip, is that not the case? (i don't really understand how the new Intel chips get their clock speed!)

If i would be ok with some 800mhz ram then i might switch out for some Corsair for the better warranty etc..
