CPU ---> mem --- MB speed

weird titel i know lol

ok this is what confuses me. ive always thought that when buying a CPU and memory that they should be the same speed. example Q6600 1066mhz and pc 8500 at 1066 mhz? Am i wrong on this? should your cpu match the FSB of the motherboard?

or would the best thing be that all match 1066mhz

can someone please clarify things for me

Intel 'quad-pump' their FSB's and they really only run at a quarter of their advertised speed.

Ie- The 1066mhz FSB Q6600 really only runs on a 266mhz FSB, and therefore only needs 533mhz (PC2-4200) memory.

But you'd be best buying some PC5300 if not overclocking, and some PC6400 if you will be overclocking.

isn't that against the law if they say it runs at a certain FSB and it doesnt reach any where near that. Computers rake my brain in. im trying get a good system going and then things change. i was going for a q6600 a p35 board and some pc8500 memory because it was all compatible at 1066mhz

would this be a good system start

Nah they just use different terms to describe their FSB, so it's not false marketing.

But it can be really confusing for those coming from AMD systems.

I wouldn't really bother with PC8500 unless you can find it cheap. Some PC6400, a P35 board and the Q6600 would make an awesome system.

yep good adivce

pc8500 only if you going to overclock heavy other wise pc6400 will do ya fine

and still leave some overclocking room if required
